Disappointing

Over two decades ago, Danny Boyle’s sophomore feature Trainspotting was a seismic shock to the senses of cinema goers worldwide — a genre defying film that immediately became a part of the pop culture pantheon, despite grim subject matter. Revisiting these same directionless characters 21 years later, with their lives all in a different kind of turmoil, should call for a sombre and melancholic character study in comparison to the original film’s enduring chaos.

Instead, Danny Boyle’s awfully titled sequel T2: Trainspotting is over-directed and hyper stylized to an unnecessary degree that makes every film in his back catalogue seem subdued in comparison. By enveloping us in visual quirks from the opening moments, Boyle lessens the emotional impact of John Hodge’s screenplay, transforming a mournful character study into an adrenaline fueled shot of nostalgia with no lasting impact. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/t2-trainspotting/

They smashed it. Get over it.

Stopped reading as soon as you critcized it for being "Hyper stylized"

It's an amazing film some of my friends think even better than the first

I enjoyed the nostalgia. Revisiting a film from 20 years ago is all about nostalgia.

So you're criticizing it for having a rare and unique style

reply

I agree. It reallly lacked energy. It just felt quite flat all round for me. The characters never felt in any danger.
Also, the adr came across very obvious to me. Really took me out of a it. There were some good moments don't get me wrong, but it just didn't really reach any great heights.

reply

"awfully titled"? Come on, you can do better than that.

You're too busy regurgitating the thesaurus to create a meaningful critique.

reply

I thought it was very good

reply

Agreed. Look, I don't think anyone thought it would surpass the original. It couldn't really. But it was still a really good piece of work that entertained and gave in my view fairly decent representations of how these characters (or in Spuds case, caricatures - bit OTT for me) may have evolved). Not everyone's cup of tea. I get that. But the severity of some of the criticism is a bit surprising
