All of Spud's stories came from the original "Trainspotting" novel - including, crucially, the one about Begbie's dad ("Trainspotting at Leith Central Station") which gave the book its title - so, yes.
The whole end scene between Spud and Gail was essentially a massive "Fourth Wall" break...
