Are they still heroin addicts?

I haven't seen yet and I'm wondering how Trainspotting 2 works with the being 20 years older? I don't see how they could still be alive if they're still heroin addicts. It's only film I've thought of watching at cinema for ages.

Rents and sick boy take it once, seemingly for old times sake. Spud is still an addict.

Renton and Sick boy aren't and spud has been off and on it ever since there is a herion scene in the film but I'm not sure if it was meant to be real as it was a bit random

how can Sick boy not be an addict? we see him takes it whenever he feels like it. Even Veronica said "Simmon takes it whenever" during the cafe conversation with Mark.

no they aren't, there's no meth in the film and there's barely any meth even in the uk.
sickboy is a coke head though
it's surprising they didn't get addicted after trying heroin again

I wasn't sure if they really took heroin shots or if that scene was metaphorical or what. It was just a odd random scene.
