Three hours of character development
But I don't think it is worthy of awards like the Palm d'Or.
After seeing the film Jauja, I decided to try to watch every film that has one first Prize at Cannes. This one was first on the list because I am doing it in reverse-chronological order. After seeing this truly boring film, I predicted that it would be my least favorite film that I will encounter during this project.
I doubt I will be wrong because I am already past "Unclee Boonmie Who Can Recall His Past Lives". Although this one obviously had a better budget and even was done with more skill, at least that one had an underlying presence.
And I was reading the English subtitles, but even if they were not close to what they were literally saying I don't think I am wrong.
The only reason a woman in her thirties would marry a man close to his age is so that she can live comfortably when she is living and get his money when he dies. And also, even if that is not why she married him, I have personally never heard of a situation where a woman has married a man that was so much older and living in poverty. . .
The poor guy must not have had any viagra. If Nihal was cheating on him she probably was doing it while he argued back and forth with someone closer to his own age, his sister!!
Anyway what I have learned already from this viewing project is that bad films, even really really bad films, do sometimes win the Palm d'Or.
And if you do not believe me after watching this, go put on "Uncle Boonmie Who Can Recall His Past Lives"...
