A travesty and disappointment
The original Sinister movie was menacingly nuanced, and that made the experience of watching it creepy. More was felt than seen. The threat was in shadow and mysterious, and that made the atmosphere and the ending dreadful.
In Sinister 2, there is no subtlety. It is all out there in your face. The children, the films, the family drama; along with musical and stylistic pastiches ripped from the first movie. The acting on the part of the adults is pretty good, but the cheesy kids seem like something out of Peter Pan. They talk too much, they reveal too much, and very little feels menacing. A family drama with supernatural kiddies; we are even treated to a borderline romance and a "hero saves the day" ending.
I loved the first movie and really wanted to like this one, but it was just common.
