Underrated Series

Sinister was a great horror film, one of the best in recent years, and in rare form, Sinister 2 is equally as good... a very unique, creative mythology, with likable characters which hardly ever happens in horror films of a serious nature... if you like horror films, I would say SEE Sinister 2, it's real good, super creepy, though definitely a bit more on the light side than part 1, but still very good.

Sinister 1 hit the on demand, netflix services quickly, and for a very long time it was the only relatively new horror film worth watching imho... and it blows my mind how poorly received the series is overall, but it's incredibly creepy, uniquely so, with great music, mythology and followthrough... and part 2 is so much better than I was worried it would be...

5.5 is ridiculously low, and I'm incredibly hard on horror films.

My ratings...

SINISTER 1: 9/10
SINISTER 2: 8/10

I will never understand the hate these movies and the insidious series get. All of them were the first movies in many many years to give me the creeps. Not only that but I found it actually had good storylines. The conjuring is also on that list. To the critics horror will always be the "bastard" child lol.

I really liked the first Sinister, but I hate the Insidious series. It didn't do it for me. I thought the story/mythology was a little dumb, and except the Shining, I don't like Shining type of characters, you're special because you are and that's that, now use your powers.

reply

Calm down. Equally as good? I thought it was ok, but it wasn't half as creepy or scary as the original. It's a horror movie. Not a country tale of two brothers.

reply

I think horror movie sequels rarely deliver simply because the surprise element is gone. And sequels can't be original unless they write a completely different story.

reply

Agreed, this could be one of the best horror series. I loved how they expanded the mythology and brought something new to the table. Hope there's more coming.

The world of genre fans is indeed bizarre. They endlessly complain about movies being the same old same old and yet when something original comes along they scream how terrible it is!

Both "Sinister" and "Insidious" stood out from the pack of horror movies because they were different; or at least different takes on the concept of The Boogeyman and ghost dimensions.

As far as "Sinister 2" I felt a potential ball was dropped when the short wave recording of the girl, the piano melody, the numbers, and murders in Norway were introduced. I'd like more on that! Not sure if it is enough to base a third movie on, but I feel there is more there to be told.

Looks like a setup to me :)

This was absolute tripe, the worst kind of sequel, ditched everything that made the original so good in exchange for shock value and cheap, gimmicky scares that misfired
I hated it, i started falling asleep watching it with a group of friends, not one of 10 of us enjoyed it. It's an atrocity
NEVER EVER compare it to the first one you morons
*beep* off

And this folks is a prime example of a "Hater". Note they trash the film but fail to give actual reasons why they thought it was "tripe". Oh they list crimes they say the film committed but do nto give examples! It renders their opinion meaningless.

Ending by calling us "morons" and telling us all to *beep* off is indeed another sign. One of a troll. The low of the low on the Internet. An antagonist.

And 10 friends all watching a movie together? Sounds like a 12 year old. Yes a 12 year old with a rotten mind.

The first one has a 6.8 and you say it's underrated?
For a horror movie I'd say it's pretty high.
Some of horror's greatests don't even get a 6...
This sequel has a 5.3, which I think is fair. Most horror sequels don't even get a 5.
Horror is underrated in general and in the genre these two are rated relatively high.
I mean The Evil Dead was a game changer in the genre, the most influential a movie in a genre can get, copied over and over and over, and I believe that's on the 7.8, like Halloween, I think...
These Sinister films aren't bad, but what do they add to the genre to be deserving of a higher rating? A 6.8 is high, just 3.2 points away from a perfect score. And sorry, but Sinister is not a perfect film. It has some flaws, like most films do.
It can be your favourite film, that's fine.
