I think I have an answer to the broken chain

In Sinister 2. The twin was unable to complete the scenario to go on to the next family. The house was burned down. I think in this case the whole thing goes back to the previous house since it could not go to the next house. In this case the deputy would have to burn both houses in order to break the chain.

One of the triplets is a girl so they aren't identical .

Perhaps that is all a moot point as the camera was broken. That might have broken the chain forever right there. Who knows, it is just a movie.

Not likely. Dad burned the camera in part 1 and it still came back.
