Abusive Father Gets Custody?

That part bugged me. Seems highly unlikely that any court would award an abusive father who put his son in the emergency room custody of his kids.

From what I could tell, the father had the county in his pocket .... The judges, the cops, the state troopers. His family was the agricultural magnate family in town, per the newspaper article that announced the wedding early in the movie. Combine that with a small town and it's not unrealistic that this situation would happen.

He was never even arrested for the abuse. She said that his cop buddies did nothing about it. So as far as the court knows, this lady just kidnapped her own kids.

The father owned everyone. It was pure joy watching that SOB burn to death, though in my mind he deserved about a week of torture first, being the tyrannical, spoiled, bully he was.
