We can tell OP's age my his misinformed info because he didn't watch the 80's cartoon G.I. Joe growing up where they would give little advice at the end of every episode and one of them said to plug your nose and tilt your head forward to stop the bleeding.

That was my impression too. They weren't calling US idiots, they were referring to the (very idiotic) advice to tip your head back during a nosebleed.

Just watched this festering pile of manure on HBO, and you are correct. Indeed, they tell the priest to tilt his head back when his nose starts to bleed.
