How Old Are They Supposed to Be?

They look like they're in their 40s but act like chicks in their mid to late 20s.

I think they they said 36 but they are definitely too old to be using getto slang.

It makes me cringe

I get what LETumEAT means about them being too old to use ghetto slang. It's not about them being too silly for their age, but that at what seems to be their age ghetto slang probably wouldn't have been a part of their slang as teens so they probably wouldn't be using it now. They'd be using other slang. It's just about verisimilitude.

Not that it matters, but I don't think they're too old for ghetto slang at all. In fact, at their actual ages, I suspect they grew up while ghetto slang was becoming mainstream, so they probably did use it as teenagers. I doubt they would be using it if they didn't. Besides, they're using it in a fun way and not trying to be cool. It's more like they're mocking those who do use it.

I'll also note that their youthful behavior is what makes them fun to watch. I'm older then both of them and absolutely cannot stand adults who try too hard to fit some misaligned image of mature. If you think they're too old to act like they do, then I'd guess that you're a real bore, regardless of your age.

reply

Well as a very silly 80-year-old lady told me just last week... only people who let the world get to them grow old mentally but for most people only your body continues aging.

And they are best friends, why wouldn't they act silly and ridiculous in front of each other? I mean, if you can't be stupid in front of your friend or as ridiculous as you want... they are not your friend.

So all in all their age is completely irrelevant, they could be 60 for all I care.

Right on, Prydain right on. You are so right.

Society has this "way" everyone conforms too .... we "should" be doing this or that "by this or that time" blah blah blah.

Nonsense. People need to butt out of others peoples business, quit judging and if people are happy with how they are and their choices , then what does it matter to anyone else!??

reply

Well said, people are often concerned about things that have no impact on their own lives and get off on judging others.

Personally I love this show (I'm a 32 year old black male so I'm probably not the target demo, but I love the chemistry of St. Claire and Parham)

To each their own but I'm enjoying each episode.

Agree. They had me from the first promos with the hot dude installing the baby car seat. "The tighter I pull, the harder it gets!"

Maggie and Emma are a refreshing change from all of the 'drama' garbage that seems to be the norm for girl friendships these days. yes there is some toilet humor but it's done gracefully.

IIRC Jessica and Lennon have said the characters are supposed to be in their early 30's.

If thats the case, then life is clearly rough for them...or they're secretly British.

Also, "ghetto slang"? Can someone elaborate on this? Seems to me many caucasians speak this way or they've coveted urban slang as their own just to 'sound cooler'.

I agree with you. People on here calling it "ghetto slang" sound pretty ignorant to me. It's just slang, period. Plenty of white people (usually younger generations) talk that way. Like you said, they do it to try to sound cool. There's nothing "ghetto" about it.

reply

How is life clearly rough for them? What the hell does that even mean? Are you referring to the characters or the actors?
