Radio Silence do it again.
They've been doing good work this past few years with movies such as Ready or Not (2019), Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), if nothing else you can count on their movies to be entertaining. Abigail is arguably the best of the lot, though there isn't much in it, they have been very consistent.
The best of Universal's recent vampire output, comfortably besting both The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) and Renfield (2023). Both of those movies are Dracula based projects and Abigail was originally meant to be as well, a reimagining of Dracula's Daughter (1936). I think the decision to drop the Dracula connection was correct. Count Dracula is an iconic character of course but maybe a bit played out by now.
The cast as a collective is great. Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito and Alisha Weir all do good in their respective roles. Barrera is great as the lead and Weir is superb as the titular character. I think this cast is better balanced than the directing duo's previous Scream movies, which were carried by Barrera, Ortega and the returning Scream alumni.
I found the comedic parts to be well executed, the pacing fine (I see some say the reveal took too long to happen but I personally think it wasn't an issue) and the movie delivers enough action to keep you entertained.
All in all a good production. Abigail is almost a dead cert to be in the top 5 horror movies of the year, come years end.
