Original Writer/Creator gone for S3

Adrian Hodges won't be back for season 3. This makes me nervous.
A couple of my favourites shows from past years where the original writer(s) left after a few seasons, it was just never the same again.
I love The Musketeers, and RRREALLY hope it won't be noticeable.

Thoughts?

I really hope it won't be noticeable either.

Why did he leave?????

reply

The articles only cite exhaustion for the reason.
I imagine there must be more to it, but there hasn't been any info other than that revealed.
I mean he was the creator too, so how do you just leave a successful show after 2 seasons? I dunno...

Ya, in my experience it has never been good for a show either.
Two of my favourites tanked after their original writer left. "The West Wing" & "Gilmore Girls" lost their principle writers in their later years and it was tragic. Never the same again.

From my experience (as a tv fan), changing writers/producers or replacing the creator, is bad for the show.

IMO because S2 felt quite different to S1 in terms of tone - more serious and more of a long-running storyline - the show has already gone through significant changes, so I don't think we'll face quite the same shift in tone this time around. Jessica Pope remains the other executive producer who'd been with Adrian from the start and I can imagine she'll continue his original long-term plan for the show.

reply

@ lucy-loo1 did you see that shift as good or bad? OR just different. I have to say you can notice it when watch them together. I can see it but for me they were both good seasons.

reply

I prefered the fun tone of S1, it still had quite serious episodes such as The Good Solider but it managed to have more in the way of bromance and humour too..

In an ideal world, I'd like S3 to sit somewhere in the middle of the two..

reply

Yes, I noticed that the second season had a different tone, and I hope you're right.

Will Jessica Pope have a new partner or will she work alone? I used to be a fan of another show, where the two creators/producers left, and one who was working with them from the beginning stayed. But he was joined by new producers, and the show was never the same.

What I am worried about is the relationship between the four musketeers. Most of the time there is no tension between them and they are in sync, and so far it seemed that nothing can come between them, like in the end of season 1, when it looked like D'Artagnan was fighting with Athos and the others, while they were only fooling Milady and the Cardinal, and me ;). If a new writer or producer joins, and he/she turns out to be a fan of extended angst scenes and unnecessary drama, that dynamic between the leads might change. I don't mind some tension and angst, but too much of that would ruin the show for me.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the change of writers. It rarely works out well for the show in question. I hope we're wrong, but, there's bount to be counts. I hope we can return to the feel of season 1

reply

Yup. Knew it. Once I heard the original writer was gone after S3 i knew this show was doomed.
Can't believe the mess they made of the release dates and distribution for this season.
Wonder what really happened behind the scenes...

Oh well, here's to the last season! 

Having watched first 3 eps of Season 3, I would say that your fears are justified - the show is much darker and not nearly so much fun. There's not much banter between the boys, and everybody looks grim all the time! I'm sure this is a more accurate reflection of the times, but it makes for depressing viewing!
