Absolute BS What Happened To This Show!

I cannot believe what I am reading that season/series three will be the last and in the United States it's NOT even going to air. WTF???!!! WHY?!

This show is probably one of the best shows on TV in the past 5 years or more. I got so hooked watching this show and couldn't wait for the next episode. Everyone else I talked to that saw this show felt the same way.

So does anyone know why they are ending it after only three short seasons? It's not like they lack source material. God, the novels are huge and you could probably come up with new Musketeer adventures forever.

Finally, the real fvcking question I want answered is why is BBC America not airing this final season? For one, I thought I read that BBC America half produced this show. Two, I check BBC America EVERY NIGHT to see what is on there and it is usually reruns of Star Trek episodes form the 1980's. I cannot remember the last time I saw an original program on that channel. It has been months. I actually said to myself when checking the BBC America line-up one night a few weeks ago that The Musketeers has to get done soon so BBC America has something to air besides old Star Trek reruns. Now I read they are not even going to air it! You cannot tell me that BBC America is going to get better ratings with a 30 year old Star Trek reruns than new Musketeer episodes.

P.S. Yes, I read Hulu is going to have it in the States. But who the hell has Hulu. No one. So what I have to subscribe to some streaming service I don't want just to watch the final 10 episodes when I already subscribe to the channel that produced the show that would rather air reruns than new shows.

Whilst the handling of S3 has been quite poor - in the age of the internet, having the show air 'all over the place' has been hugely disruptive to fandom, with some fans having already seen all of it and others having to wait until late May just for episode 1 - I'm happy to go into S3 knowing it will be the last and that each characters storyline has been tied up accordingly.

lucy-loo1,

Ya, I read that it is already airing in Canada and it is available via Netflix and other streaming in Latin America, and Greece and Turkey, etc. I just don't understand why BBC America would produce a show only to not air it?

reply

Indeed, it is already airing here in Canada. Episode 6 just aired this week.

Didn't realize BBCA had helped to produce it. They probably weren't able to pull in much of an audience on cable. For Hulu, they seem to be partnered with them - lots of BBC shows are now there instead of Netflix, I noticed. I subscribe to Hulu, so not a big issue for me at all. I never watch BBCA anyway due to commercials & they've also edited down some of the shows.

I've read there's talk at the BBC of a subscription service beginning for the US this year some time. I'd subscribe in a new york minute to have access to that content. I really hope this comes true.

Sunflower1970,

I know I read an article about the show before it even aired the first episode that it was produced by BBC America. I actually thought it was a BBC America original production. I think Copper was. I thought it was like that. But then I realized that it also aired on the BBC in the UK. I just read an article from last week about season three being the last and the article again stated that the show was "co-produced" by BBC America. So again, my question is why would BBC America produce a show and then never air it?

I read the ratings in the UK were really good. I am not sure about the ratings on BBC America. It still has to be better than the reruns they only now show on there.

I have DirecTV and pay for all their channels which is now pretty expensive. Plus, I pay for Netflix. I really do not want to have to pay for another streaming service. When The Musketeers first aired on BBC America the episodes ran for an hour and fifteen minutes. Subsequent replays would only be an hour and I noticed scenes missing. So if you caught the episode the first time it aired it seemed like you got an unedited or extended episode.

So are you saying that the BBC in the UK will offer their content here in the U.S. via another streaming service you have to subscribe to? That is cool especially if you get to see some new shows. But isn't that what BBC America is supposed to be for? I always thought BBC America was supposed to show British shows? Instead we now get those few and far between and get reruns of old American shows. The channel programming is totally stupid.

Yeah, I read there was supposed to be some sort of paid streaming service offered to ppl in the US. I've personally been wanting this for ages. 'Bout time they're gonna do this. I'd love access to live streams of the channels, but I'm sure that's being too hopeful. I can live with access just to the iPlayer.

That was my impression of BBCA as well, that we should be getting shows from overseas, & I used to watch it, but not so much anymore...and yeah, those marathon reruns of Star Trek TNG, I can do without. (Yeah, I love Star Trek, but if I wanna watch it, I'll just do it on Netflix or other streaming sites)

this hasn't been news for a year

murad23,

I don't know what you are talking about on this board. This isn't news? Just last week it came out that this would be the last season. It was just confirmed from the one producer this week that the show would air in the States via HULU and NOT BBCA. Also, you are totally wrong that the show finished principal photography a over year ago and has been in editing since. Just look online and you see they finished November 20th.

reply

You don't know what you are talking about. this show has had problems for a year.

Sorry but my predictions were right all along. Does that upset you? by the way have you seen the first few episodes? I have. What a MESS

murad23,

I am guessing English is a second language for you or something because you are not understanding a thing that I have said.

I hadn't heard that yet, so I am totally depressed now.

Well, crud! I don't subscribe to HULU so that totally messes me up. I guess I will just have to wait until it goes into syndication SOMEWHERE... SOMETIME.

Darn :o(

nannyjo,

Do what I just did tonight. I signed up for Hulu and their free one week trial. I am going to try to watch all ten episodes of season three in a week and then cancel my subscription before the week is out. I watched the first two episodes tonight on Hulu. Good stuff. One for all, and all for one!

Ignorant much? A lot of people, including me, have hulu. It's not a bad service and it give you other options besides netflix, which I'm getting tired of, and amazon. Speaking for myself, I just started watching the series today and I'm enjoying them.

Bad grammar makes you look very stupid

reply

kenpowolf,

Sorry to have offended you by simply questioning the amount of subscribers a streaming service has that you pay for. Thin skinned much? Hulu is far behind Netflix. Hulu has nine million subscribers and is available only in the U.S. versus 70 million worldwide for Netflix. Anecdotally too, I personally do not know anyone who has Hulu. But everyone I know has a Netflix subscription and even a few have Amazon Prime. I was just trying to make a point. But I guess I am ignorant, right?

Plus, what is the point of having a Hulu subscription? I signed up for Hulu last night so I could watch the show. Looking through their site it looks to me they have just a handful of original shows and maybe two or three are worth watching. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the main reason to sign-up for Hulu would be if you did not have television and want to see currently airing shows. Because besides a few original shows, everything else on their service I can get on my TV. As far as movies go, I am sticking with Netflix's vast library.

P.S. I also read tonight that Hulu is only 720p. No wonder I thought the Musketeers wasn't as sharp when I last watched it on BBC America.

I agree with you 100%, it is one of the best shows, in my top 5. BBC cancelled "Da Vinci Demons" also in just 3 seasons, I guess the BBC in UK probably has budget issues?. If the show does get picked up in US, either HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Star, etc, it may continue. If you really want to find season 3 its on Piratebay, if you know how to get it: https://thepiratebay.org/

reply

Not so much budget issues but viewing figures that aren't great for primetine BBC 1, which means the BBC wasn't keen to spend a lot of money on a drama that's not getting a lot of viewers ( for primetime BBC 1 )..

There won't be any more series for a while, partly because of how S3 ends and partly because some of the main actors have moved onto new projects.

I am very sorry to hear that, I am in the US and I just happen to find this show by accident on my own on the site that I told you about. I actually don't even own a real TV; I have watched shows that are not even aired in US. It's a shame such a great show is getting cancelled, because this show from the cast, production, art direction, music, etc, just flawless. I didn't think this classic tale "The Musketeers " could be retold again in a series. I was very surprised the BBC or Stars cancelled "Da Vinci Demons" which was one of the most creative shows I have ever seen. Things may change?..they always do with high demand shows.

BirdmanT7,

The first two seasons of the show aired on BBC America here in the States. It was announced just a few weeks ago that the third season would not air on BBCA but rather Hulu in the States and oh by the way, season three will be the last. I thought that was really weird how well after season three was in the can and ready to air they made both those announcements. I just did some looking around online and from everything I read the show got good ratings, especially in the UK. It debuted to 10 million viewers and had anywhere from 3 to 6 million after that. The second season finale had 3 million people watch it. The critics' reviews were mostly positive and it has very high audience marks. So of course that means cancel it. We got improve comedy-reality-competition-reruns to air instead!

So the show already aired here on BBCA and it was announced they aren't doing anymore shows so I don't think another network is going to pick it up and continue it. What is weird too is that everything I have read also states that the show was co-produced by BBCA. So BBCA paid for a show and didn't air it's third season. What sense does that make? I guess those Star Trek reruns they air instead must get them ratings and make them money?

reply

I like Star Trek and grew up on Next Generation, but I'm tired of all those reruns. It's the ONLY thing BBCA shows now aside from the random movie. I was wondering why there were no promos on the show so I came here to find out what was up. Had no idea that this was all going on and it makes me really sad. I loved the show as I've always been a much bigger fan of British tv than american. I'm guessing there's only 8 episodes in season 3 because that's all I could find on watch-tvseries.

I hope they don't do this to Last Kingdom.

I have EXORCISED the demon

reply

There's 10 episodes in season 3, with the final episode tying up each musketeer's story.

Here in the UK, BBC 1 has only got as far as episode 2 this weekend

reply

draivin,

Exactly, on what BBCA shows now. I don't understand how some channels on my TV survive by only airing reruns over and over again. Plus, Star Trek is American and NOT British. Why is it on BBCA?

I just watched the whole season here in the U.S. on Hulu. I signed up for a one week free trial then canceled it when I watched all the episodes. There are 10 episodes in season three. As well as seasons one and two. All the episodes are 55 to 58 minutes or so with no commercials on Hulu.

Season three was again really good. It sucks this show isn't coming back.

reply

It's about time they wrapped it up. They just cannot come up with any more crazy plot twists. Season 3 has been such a disappointment for me. I did not care for what they did with the story in the first place (other than keeping Constance alive, obviously), but the last season was just absurd. I did not know whether to laugh or cry. Whoever wrote this script should be "flogged, hanged and flogged again"(c).
