Star Trek Continues 2nd Episode, 'Lolani'.

For those who have not seen it, "Lolani" is fantastic! The folks at STC have turned in another winner with this episode. It really is like stepping back in time and seeing the fourth season of my beloved Star Trek. Vic Mignogna is excellent at capturing the essence of Kirk, without devolving into a parody of Shatner's mannerisms. All I can say is if you have not seen "Lolani, see it. See it now.
Kudos to Vic and the rest of the cast and crew. They've done a phenomenal job and raised the bar yet again.

Couldn't agree more.

There were times, when Vic made me believe he -was- "Shatner's Kirk". Mannerisms, a certain angle, a certain speech pattern. Excellent episode overall.

My one critique, is Larry Nemecek. He is entirely wrong for the role of 'Bones'. In this regard, I think Karl Urban nailed the role on JJs version of Star Trek.

Looking forward to the continuing adventures of Vic Mignogna and his crew on the starship Enterprise...

Yeah, its freaky how much Vic looks like the Shat from certain angles. He definitely looks like he could have stepped in from an earlier era, thats for sure. Just wish Chuck Huber was still playing Bones, I could totally buy it!

I thought I saw somewhere that Chuck Huber was coming back. Respect to Larry Nemecek, but he really isn't right for the part.

It was heavy handed and painful to watch. It makes The Omega Glory sound like a few hymns, followed by a church supper with a choir.

You're a filthy, despicable **liar**, as has been demonstrated repeatedly. Name the P2 people who support your constant slander or it's not true. Furthermore, "some" P2 people are not Robert Mauro or James Cawley, who have said more than once that they want this type of horseshyt dropped. But of course, since it is you that is the real toxic narcissist, your respect for Cawley goes out the window in favor of your personal agenda. You spout all of this constant diarrhea about how great P2 is, blah blah blah, but the minute you are asked by ***top*** P2 brass (Cawley, who you claim to have respect for and Mauro) to stop fanning the flames of this situation, you think to yourself "fvck Cawley and Mauro, I hate Vic with such a blind obsession that I'll continue to badmouth him all I want". So in essence, just as you used Pony Horton's illness to attempt to poison people against Vic, just as you used your parents' death to deflect criticism from and troll sympathy for yourself, you've used James Cawley and the entire P2 and Ajax productions to further your lunatic vendetta against Vic and Farragut Films. You are nothing but a filthy, despicable narcissist who uses others as mere tools. You have no respect for Pony Horton, your parents or James Cawley whatsoever. It's no wonder Top P2 staff have stated that you are not welcome to be a part of their production, now or ever. They see you for the poisonous, lying narcissist that you are.

I thought I saw somewhere that Chuck Huber was coming back. Respect to Larry Nemecek, but he really isn't right for the part.

I have no idea for sure, but I want to say a month or two ago that I read, I think on the STC Facebook wall that this is Larry Nemecek's last time as McCoy.

There is one scene, where Vic enters the empty room of Lolani. The moment, when he raises his hand, hesitates and then puts it on the top of the chair and looks around is so much like Shatner-Kirk, it's unbelievable. I wish Spock was half as good, though...

While I appreciate the professionalism of this episode and its production, the story itself felt like it was somewhere between S3 of TOS and another dull episode of TNG. Sort of a female version of Let This Be Your Last Battlefield. I think that the stories really need a bit more action and danger.

One last point, which is my feeling about both STC and P2: Spock is one of the most interesting and complex characters in all of Star Trek, but in both of these productions, he seems much more like Data, just there to spout off technobabble.

Still, I hope they keep up with it.

I have to confess that I was somewhat disappointed with this particular episode. The main issue being some of the casting decisions and the acting.

My main issue is Todd Haberkorn as Mr. Spock. I do not know what his ethnic heritage is but it does not come across right with that of a Vulcan. Leonard Nimoy has a certain look and so far the PHASE II and the JJ Abrams reboot series has done a casting decision that works for Mr. Spock.

The second issue that I really noticed in this particular episode is how irritating I found the character of Dr. Elise McKenna and the acting style of the actress who plays her Michelle Specht.

The character of Dr. Elise McKenna and most of her dialogue really should have been the dialogue of Dr. McCoy. In fact more so in this episode because of the regional Earth origin of Dr. McCoy's ancestors. A real opportunity was lost there with him not contributing any comment to the situation Lolani was in.

I'd also add that Uhura, with her African heritage not given any input into Lolani was even more of a lost opportunity.

Other than the casting and acting decisions the retro look and sound of the episode was spot on and worked quite well.

I applaud the efforts made here and hope the series will improve with each new episode. Actually I'm confident it will.

Yeah, that's gonna be a touchy thing for Vic to deal with. Trying to make Dr. Elise McKenna a regular main character might make for a happy home, but its not helping his production. My advice is to do what Roddenberry did: stick a blonde wig on her and let her be Nurse Chapel.

Frankly, I thought having a shrink as a main character was one of the worst things about TNG.

I actually think Vic Mignogna does a better Kirk than Shatner ever did.

THERE, I SAID IT!

He totally has that 1960s look and acting style, in a good way.

These guys are doing a spectacular job and I greatly look forward to the next episode.

I just saw "Lolani".
As a long time Star Trek fan, there were two reasons why this STC episode was watchable and enjoyable for me.

1. The quality of the sets, costumes, special effects were good enough.

2. Vic Mignogna is a professional level Kirk. While not perfect he works well almost the entire time as that character.
He is the best amateur production Kirk I have seen yet.

* As for the comments that the story was sentimental. Yes it's true, but that fits the description of many Star Trek Original Series stories.

- Obviously in an amateur production several of the actors are going to have the skills of someone from a community theater.
But that is to be expected

But again, congratulations overall on a decent production.
I look forward to seeing more.

PS. I have only been able to watch one episode of Star Trek Phase II, the Hugo Nominated, "World Enough and Time".
My problem with that series is that none of the actors are close to being right.
Again, Vic Mignogna as Kirk was a crucial reason that Lolani worked for me.

Leonard Nimoy has said that Shatner playing the Kirk character 'big' was essential to making the cast work.
By Shatner being over the top then Nimoy and the other actors at that moment could contrast with Shatner by being more restrained.

That back and forth (over the top and restrained) also worked for McCoy and Scotty too. When those characters went big, then the other actors could back off.

"Vic has got some of this and he really does seem to do the same thing as Shatner was able to do and get the entire cast invigorated and motivated to really make there characters stand out."

Mignogna dominates when he is on screen and that is important to pull the audience into the action of the story.

I think they did a wonderful job, people seem to be really growing into their roles. Especially Vic M, who went from good in the 1st episode to great in this one; but I felt they all did great (although some had very limited roles, and Chekhov was Sir Not Appearing in this Episode).

I respectfully disagree, the make up is horrible, the acting substandard especially the Orion girl and the tall red haired doctor who acts like a 2nd grader. I like the first episode but Lolani is awful

Lolani was a good episode. Mignogna is a damned good Kirk. I don't care for the guy playing McCoy, but I've read that he's replaced for the remaining episodes. The makeup is fine; high-definition tv shows any flaw, unfortunately. The only exception was the green body makeup worn by both Lolani and the guy who owned her, which occasionally crinkled up like a 90-year-old's skin when they moved.
