It was nothing personal. The family\cult had probably been after the two little kids and picked the night the parents would be out and a babysitter alone with them. Halloween was perfect as they could use the pig mask ruse to get the front door opened. They did not expect Kylie to give as much resistance as she did and so the plan was to just push their way in.
The horror of it all, like "The Strangers" and a few other similar movies, is that the attack was nothing personal. Just crazy people.
