I really, really enjoyed this movie - 8/10 - but one thing bugged me:
We never really got to learn any more about Odin. He's this mysterious old guy with a hearing aid who no one knew and (apparently) came all the way from New Zealand. We never get to see the son & Odin even stare each other down or anything. Anyone know if there was a deleted scene / plan to draw that little loose end together?
Yes, in the script the Odin man (Jimmy) is an old friend of Gordie. He calls a taxi and leaves right after Abi tells everyone about Gordie dying. When the son sees him leaving, he runs out and babbles the entire incident (with burning the body) to him, and Jimmy tells him everything will be okay then gives him his hat. Then the son asks if he really is Odin and he winks.
