—and I went into it with no expectations, not knowing it was based on a true story, and found myself completely enthralled and invested and devastated by its end. One of my favorite tragic movies. Great performances, great filmmaking.

What about the book did you like better than the movie?
Its been a while since I have read the book but from what I remember, I think the movie was very blase on how it handled the culpability of each of the people involved and it was probably a more diplomatic approach to the disaster without wanting to assign any blame on anybody. Whereas, Jon Krakauer blames many including himself and was quite scathing of Anatoly Boukreev´s actions in his book so much so that Boukreev wrote in his own book to counter a lot of what was claimed by Krakauer.
Another interesting point is that Vanessa Kirby played Sandy Hill-Pittman and she is one of the more controversial figures in the book but is barely seen in the movie. Also, the nuances of what happened on summit day and the events after were quite detailed in the book whereas the movie is a bit disjointed. The movie is not bad by any stretch but the book is much more suspenseful.
