What bothered me about this movie is......

Every line of dialogue, every sub plot, and every character... Is all about bloody climbing...

Now I understand that it's a movie about climbing, however even when Kiera is on the phone talking about the unborn child. "She'll be a good climber"

It's like the guy in the pub/bar who can only talk about Football/Work/there kids.. It's so one time and boring...

Now before I get aload of sh#t about what did I expect... I'll give some examples of well written films with subplots that work yet have nothing to do with the movies main plot...

HEAT,

Step daughter depressed about her real dad not wanting to know her

Val Kilmer having a gambling problem

Pacino not being able to keep a wife happy

RES DOGS

Mr Blonde being a sadistic mad man

UNFORGIVEN

The love of a deceased wife keeps him trying to be a good man

This ^^^^ is a great point, and explains why I felt no connection to or sympathy for any of the climbers. All we really knew of them was just that: they climbed. Scant biographical details re family/occupations were just that, scant.

Good call, it's like no-one ever talked about anything else? No-one discussed the football or politics or what flavour of ice-cream they liked. Every conversation just climbing. I guess the movie had to get going but a bit more natural speech might have helped.

Both Rob and his wife were avid climbers, with Rob's wife having previously summited Everest, as well. Not only that, but that's how they met. So, although your conversation may have been "I bet she'll like the Knicks", there's was about climbing.

What an absolutely ridiculous part of a movie to pick out as being bothersome to you.

They're on Everest, the highest mountain in the world, and a dream for many of them. They are excited about climbing, thinking about climbing, thinking about staying alive on the climb, etc. How ridiculous that the conversations would have to do with climbing! Derp.

This is what I'm thinking. They probably did spend a lot of time talking about climbing. Remember when we were kids going on vacation? We talked about that vacation for at least a week until we left. It was the most exciting thing of the summer! Now magnify that to the most exciting (and expensive) thing of your life and you've got what I imagine it's like to BE on Everest about to climb it. It's a bucket list kind of experience that also happens to require complete focus and concentration.

Bingo. Excellent observation. I loved the scenery and paid little attention to the people stomping in the snow or blabbering in the tents. I'd rather see a film about the Sherpas than about folks using the Mountain for therapy. It was known as Sagarmāthā long before it was named after some British surveyor. You'd think the British invented everything on the planet .... kind of like we Americans. We're rather full of ourselves. 😉

Is a stupid way to die, and that there are a lot of people in the world with a s*it load of money to piss away on meaningless escapades!
The only Everest climbers I'm impressed by, are the first 2 to accomplish it.
Now it's just become one more natural wonder, that humans turned into an exploited dump littered with garbage, spent oxygen bottles and corpses!
