The copy on Movieberry wasn't softened. Softening the violence wasn't the problem (although Clockwork Orange-style in-your-face real-world violence of this sort is always too much for a large segment of the American moviegoing public, even people who normally don't shy away from R-rated fare) -- it was more a question of whether they'd change the tone/attitude/slang. (btw, I liked it so much that I bought the PAL DVD to play on my region-free player. It has closed captioning, and that helped me to pick up a lot of slang and cultural references that went right past me the first time.)
I believe in intelluhgint desine!
