Lovecraft influence spoilers ahead

I have a legitimate question regarding The Remaining. Question is does anyone else see the Lovecraft overtones in this film? I ask b/c the creatures, what little we see of them, remind me of creatures I've seen in other films based on Lovecraft stories. The tentacle creature that kills one of the guys in the film reminds me of something of the Cthulhu Mythos.

In addition, for anyone who's seen the film, "The Mist," by Stephen King, remember they used similar creatures in that film as well. King has admitted to being a fan of Lovecraft also.

This is a ripoff off the mist. So yes, it has some lovecraftian elements.

How is it a ripoff of the mist? The premise of each are completely different.

I wouldn't call it that. The only religious elements The Mist had in it were brought by Mrs. Carmody. The cause of the 'monsters' in it were not religious-based. If anything, this movie was a "ripoff" of the bible, or the Left Behind movies, with more gore and horror thrown in. I don't know if there were similar movies before the Left Behind series or not but regardless, it doesn't matter.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that. The ending brought Lovecraft's Elder Gods to mind.
