Beach Boys
Anyone else find it a bit annoying that Beverly goes from trying to convince Barry to go see the Beach Boys with her by singing parts of their songs, to not knowing who they are when she sees them on TV?

shareYes that bothered me, but this show tries to pull a lot of fast ones like that. Can't take it too seriously, it's a fun comedy.
shareI don't think it was that far fetched. Beverly was a casual fan. And The Beach Boys had been around a long time and had major personnel changes. So they may have been unrecognizable to some.
sharemakes sense, didn't think of that aspect.
shareNo. It doesn't make sense. Never thought The Beach Boys were necessarily recognizable by their faces. Unlike the Monkees. Hold strong on your first thought. I don't buy her flightiness at all in this regard.
shareI agree. Big difference between The Beach Boys and Monkees.

bev doesn't strike me as the type of person who watches much tv
shareIt's a bit insulting to the Beach Boys to confuse them with the Monkees. Nothing against the Monkees, but there was a level of genius in the Beach Boys music that few other bands have reached.
shareI agree. Brain Wilson is a genius at least in my book he is. Mike Love is great too and no disrespect to him at all. The Monkees began as a tv show about band then the 4 became a real band. The Beach Boys started as a band. Big difference. Their music is very different too. The Beach Boys have a classic sound that it is hard to miss.

Also,I'm pretty sure Bev mentioned the Beach Boys 'doo-wopiness'(or something similar!)at the beginning of the episode...which they were in the early days.A friend of mine has a box set which has a 1961 recording of them singing unaccompanied..absolutely brilliant.Don't think the Monkees could ever match that!
