Why was Kenna written out of Reign?

Did she not get along with the cast or director? It is very suspicious to just suddenly remove a character like that without a proper story really. From her tweets it seems that was the final scene she is ever doing on Reign. I quite enjoyed her character too. Perhaps they will cast someone else who will bring some fun to the castle. Its getting quite serious now.

I wish I had an answer. This really bothers me too. I would think that no matter what shenanigans Kenna has gotten herself into, she would have reached out to Mary when she heard the news about Francis. It's frustrating to have her plot dangling in the wind like this. If they really were done with her, I wish they would have written her off with more finality.

reply

How much more final do you want? Her death? She's an embarrassment to the crown, so her being sent away and never heard from again isn't that far out of reach.

reply

At least if she were dead I would know that I'm forever resigned to watching Bash get (nearly) drowned to death by googly eyed nutbag witches. As it stands, there's still room for hope that the actress will be back, and hope breeds eternal misery.

And this is Reign after all. Almost everyone seems to reappear sooner or later unless we actually saw their heads come off or something of that nature.

Even then they come back... I'm looking at you Ghost Henry.

reply

Oh, Ghost Henry. Not bad in theory, but yikes to the long and loony execution.

reply

Ah, but Henry wasn't a ghost, he was a hallucination. Catherine was being poisoned just like Henry was, by Antoine. The cheese was sliding off her cracker and it almost hit the floor until it was figured out. Too late for Henry though - his cheese hit the ground and was devoured by the palace rats before you could say, "What do you MEAN he humped her out the window?"

reply

lol. That scene still makes me laugh. By far one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV.

That whole episode with Catherine and Henry... oh the carpet... loved it!

reply

My favourite so far! The dynamic between the actors is fantastic.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!

 I am loving S3, but this one story line is just the worst! So glad that in the last episode, Bash was actually doing stuff without Delphine or a supernatural element.

As it stands, there's still room for hope that the actress will be back, and hope breeds eternal misery.
Tell me about it. I'm a Klaroline fan. 😭😭😭😭😭 

I believe she is filming her show Please Like Me.

reply

Please Like Me is awesome! I was surprised to see her appear on an Australian show, but as I found out later, that's where she's from. Still, I hope she comes back to Reign.

reply

Maybe there is room for the return of the actress but the Kenna character is mourning her side lover after scarcely seeing him executed.

reply

She's been sent away to have her baby, so they could bring her back.

reply

Kenna leaves court because she is pregnant and it's too scandalous, but the one who runs a whore house and the mother of the King's bastard are at the center of court.

reply

Excellent point...

reply

Well this is the French court. The mother of the bastard being a member of court even after would have been common enough. In the Scottish court as well, Mary's male relatives were well known for their bastards but it was said being a not-so-royal Stewart was a good position in life, they took good care of their bastards and many got good titles and money.

reply

I miss Kenna and hope she comes back. She is still married to Bash. It was never annulled and so neither can move on. The writers could very easily say she either miscarried, gave the child up for adoption, return and beg for Bash to take her back, make the baby actually Bash's because she miscalculated and remember she did not sleep with the general that much, maybe a couple of times. Hoping Delphine lied to snare Bash...lots of ways around this. Just bring her back.

reply

In interviews, it seemed Caitlin didn't like her 'weak' character or how women were portrayed in general on the show.

Uhhh... how did she THINK women in general behaved and were treated in the 16th century?

I've heard she can be a bit of a b1tch though. Personally I don't miss her.

reply

I don't miss Kenna either. It's nothing against the actress, I just didn't see the appeal of the character or her pairing with Bash. She went better with Renaud. I like Bash with Delphine, and if that doesn't last, he can be with someone else.

reply

Bash needs a fresh storyline that doesn't involve around him falling in love. He is so boring now, they need to give him something to do already.

Holy water cannot help you now, see I've come to burn your kingdom down

reply

Bash is NOT boring. It's not his fault the way the story goes. There is a lot more he is to discover concerning Delphine. I hope Kenna comes back with his baby and is in competition to reclaim her husband.

I heard that the show was not doing very well, and part of the reason was because Caitlyn Stasey tends to have a big mouth that turns off some conservative viewers, and she also said things that angered some on the left, such as her saying she's a lesbian even though she has a boyfriend. Regardless of an actor's/actress' political views -- especially those in an ongoing series -- they should be cognizant that if they upset one side or the other of politics, they stand to cause trouble for more people than themselves. It's not a one-woman show, and her tweets were turning off viewers. She was told to temper her views, she refused, so the CW wrote her off. She may have decided not to keep her views to herself because as one poster stated, she didn't like how her character was written and just wanted out.

reply

It's hard for me to believe that the opinions of an actress would be the reason that 'conservative' viewers would quit Reign. I think there's enough controversial content within the actual episodes for the easily-offended to jump ship long before they caught wind of social and/or political statements from one of the cast members. Do you have any sort of source for this information?

reply

I read it on a "Reign" article over the late summer, early fall. Might've been TMZ website, not sure. It was some months ago. I wish I had saved the link. I can try to find it, not sure if I will though. And I agree with what you said. Most in Hollywood are Liberal, so if one is gonna let that get in the way of what they watch, they're kinda up the creek without a paddle. lol

reply

Yeah and I totally wasn't trying to be difficult about finding the article or anything, it just seems silly for a person to like the content on Reign but then to be easily offended about real-life stuff behind the scenes. That sort of behavior wouldn't surprise me if were parents complaining about Disney stars and their actions/beliefs, but Reign...? This show is a bit wild all on its own, Caitlyn Stasey or no Caitlyn Stasey.

But if it was TMZ, that would be believable. They'll take anything and run with it.
