This show has become SO inaccurate, I'm legitimately confused.

When Conde married Elizebeth, I texted my friend "Wait is this supposed to be Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen? Or am I thinking of the wrong Elizabeth?"

I can handle making stories up about the ladies-in-waiting but can we at least get the main facts of the rulers correct? How much longer is Francis going to live for?!

reply

He married her, but didn't actually "married" her. All documents were destroyed so in everyone's eyes they're not married. So they can spin it off as something that was lost in history, since no one really knew about it except the inner circle. But if you still expect them to follow history then you have to check that out the window.

reply

It may have characters based on real people, but it's still fiction. Relax.

reply

It's a great show. I don't care how much history is thrown in. The stories are interesting and the actors all amazing. Just embrace it and go with the flow!

reply

Exactly. Like I said it's fiction. Who cares if it's accurate?

reply

because what is the POINT of saying its based off Mary, Queen of Scots, if they only get her name right? Seriously, they should have created an alternate reality, taken a few facts from Mary Stuart's life, and done whatever they pleased AND kept Francis round who everyone loves and doesn't want to see die. I love history and I know these shows take creative license which his fine and all but seriously at this point its like wow. and Elizabeth is my favorite historical character but already looking at the promo and how she bounced in like a teenage girl made me nauseous and this whole thing with Conde is ridiculous. Put SOME accuracy in, damn. Otherwise again I state, what WAS the point?

"I can't be let off the hook because I might just get the notion that it's ok to keep running"

reply

Then don't watch it. I mean again...it's fiction on a teen television network. I don't watch fictional tv for a history lesson. If you want accuracy, watch the history channel. If they did the story the way it all happened in real life, it would be incredibly depressing and boring. It's much more interesting the way it is.

reply

"If you want accurate history what the History Channel" LOL. The History Channel isn't much better than this show. Not that I've ever watched this show, anything on American network television is trash, by default. That's why I'm not going to complain about how lousy this show undoubtedly is, even without all of the historical inaccuracies. Also, I guess this is some sort of.. what, fan-fiction? If I produced a show called "Obama; America's first black president" and it was about a white guy who worked at Sears, how would you react? That's basically what this show is and what you're defending when you say it's okay to base something on history/real-life but then deviate so far from actual history that it no longer even makes any sense to say it's based on it [history].

But anyway, like people have said, this is a show whose demographic is teenage girls, and on network television. The CW or whatever channel this airs on has never produced anything of legitimate quality and they never will, especially a period-piece drama based on things that HBO and Showtime can barely pull off. This is lowest-common-denominator type stuff, just not even worth the time.

I did catch a few minutes of this show the other day, it ruined my mood a little bit. I changed the channel feeling personally insulted and wondering how it is an individual can even watch a show like this without feeling the urge to kill something.

reply

The Tudors wasn't accurate either but it was highly successful. I don't see any problem other than spoil sports ruining it for those of us who do love the show. Season Two, episodes 21 and 22 were really awesome. Episode 8 and 17, 18, and 19 also were very good. This sure beats watching yet another vampire show, another tiresome CSI, FBI, cop show or hospital/doctor/scandalous etc. shows that are so many you don't have a great selection. REIGN for me is refreshing and different. I LOVE IT and look so forward to Season 3.

Ahhh.....that explains it. I am a sucker for period drama's and was so excited when this first came out. I tried so hard to like it, but like you, was downright insulted. The music, the drama (so childish for that time period it's mind boggling).

And, how many times Mary ran out into the woods all on her own. LOLOL What???? Ohhh kay then.

This is the bad soap opera of that era. Like another reviewer said, I was expecting one of them to start texting, or pull out an ipad.

And the writing.....don't even get me started on that. Oh well....I guess if the teenagers are entertained by it.....it kind of makes sense now.

reply

Uh...I'm hardly a teenager. I am well old enough to enjoy this. I know many other "oldies" who also do. I pay no attention to critics. This show is unique and I feel it has longevity. Bash himself called it, Historical Fiction. What's wrong with that? I defy anyone to prove without the benefit of doubt if some of the in between stuff did not happen. You can't because nobody truly knows what went on in between with any historical figure. Name one and you will see added dialogue, scenes, characters, etc that were put there to enhance the stories that are factual. We have television here not a history book. I love this show and I will stick with it.

reply

I pay no attention to critics.

Actually, you do. I have seen you respond to most every single bit of critique. I get it. You love this show. It's all good.

Bash himself called it, Historical Fiction. What's wrong with that?

Nothing is wrong with historical fiction. I am totally a sucker for period drama's, fiction or otherwise. I loved "The Tudors" and "The Borgia's". Both have historical inaccuracies. Watched both of them a few times. My issue isn't with that.

I love this show and I will stick with it.

Good for you! Obviously lots of other people do too! I tried to like it, and as I said, wanted desperately to like it. I LOVE period drama's. I just couldn't take the (in my view) bad writing.

Different strokes, different folks.

reply

Well gee whiz....excuse me!!! I have a hard time understanding what is so wrong with understanding a show that is historically fictional? I get criticized for everything and everybody I like. SO BITE ME! Sorry you had to read my words. You didn't have to, you chose to. SO go have your different stroke.

Look...this is a review board. Not everyone is going to have your view, nor can you force them to. I'm sorry to break it to you, but not everyone has the same love for "Reign". lol. Some people don't like it. And your response is "Bite Me". lolol Alllrighty then

Don't you know it's rude to mock people? I refer to the entire paragraph I wrote highlighted. Goody for you that you know how to do that and feel like a champion. So, have a great day.

What??? You have utterly lost me. LOLOL

reply

Forget it. Never mind. Nix the whole comments and good bye.

reply

I mean, should they not then do movies like Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter? That's not accurate either, but it uses his name. It's just for fun. Lighten up.

reply

Vampire Hunter sucked. Making him
a vampire hunter? That's like putting Superman in a Marvel movie.

reply

lol Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter? wow... I obviously watch it for entertainment value but when you use like, hardly any of her life, it seems absolutely stupid to use her even as a base. Why not do your own so you can do whatever you please? I am plenty lightened up; you're the one getting worked up. I literally said my point was what IS the point? If you don't like my opinion, you can you know, not read it.

"I can't be let off the hook because I might just get the notion that it's ok to keep running"

reply

I'm not worked up. I'm not the one bitching about something so stupid as the inaccuracy of a fictional tv show.

reply

I'm not worked up either. This show never claimed to be following history to the letter. People forget that "historical drama" is emphasis on the "DRAMA". It's not meant to be a history lesson. If people want historical documentary they're on the wrong bloody channel.  

reply

And it is your only concern? On her appearance in the season finale, she not only has evil bitch writing on her face, but you can see the show runner will make her an antagonist just by looking at her makeup and manner.

Make that completely fictional characters some of which use the names of real people, enacting almost entirely fictional events.

reply

The chick they showed was E's proxy, but the actual queen.

reply

Just don't nitpick nobody cares about people who complain all the time! The show is great and nobody should care about this or that.

reply

The show is bullsh!t, but it's entertaining. The acting is good.

reply

Really? It's fiction just check the story of king francis. Doesn't mean it sucks. It is based in true story like TROY made in 2004, but it's well made for what is supposed to be!

reply

Yes!

reply

The story of Mary is so sad. We all know how that ends so I'm hoping this takes place in an alternate universe. Same characters, different outcome 😜

reply

Considering Mary's beheading doesn't take place until she's in her forties I don't think the show is going to show that unless they do a major time jump which I don't think they will. The most I think they'll do is subtitles at end of the final episode.

reply

Mary gets 2 more husbands yet. The stories with that alone can be interesting. There is a lot of stuff that can be done. I'd love to see Bash alone with his own show mixing it up with knights and armour, ladies and mystical things.

reply

During Francis' and Mary's wedding in season 1, you can hear the string section playing Lorde's song "Royal", now I may not be #rocketscientist, but I don't think that song dropped yet in the 1550's lol.

My point is that the show isn't historically accurate, but man it's entertaining. Good acting and they manage to squeeze in a lot of storyline into an hour.

I hope the show runs a long time, I think it's gonna make it to at least syndication, and hopefully it finds a bigger audience on Netflix and is able to run longer.

Adelaine Kaine is a sweetheart. BTW
