Why continue the series without Dan Simmons?

The show is named after the Dan Simmons novel that the first season was based upon.

The second season has absolutely nothing to do with either the novelist or “The Terror”.

Why not just adapt another of Simmons’ stories? Or, if they wanted to write completely new material, why not connect it to storyline of the first season? From memory, there was a huge amount of backstory to the demon bear in the novel.

They're taking the path like how True Detective was done. Different stories each season. I'm enjoying it so far though since it's a take on Japanese horror folklore. Wonder if they'll do the babadook next or something like that. I never read the book so it wouldn't effect my viewing experience on this series. Also Dan only wrote one book for The Terror and that was already concluded in the first season. Guess they just kept the terror name for the other stories.

What they SHOULD have done is adapt Simmons' novel Song of Kali instead. This current story is just tedious.
