most annoying character of all time : Steve Murphy

in some cases we can tell him saint
even when he shoots at taxi driver we know that taxi driver was to blame
he always doing the right thing
he saves the child
he never scares even when they cover his face he's still bad ass
he can shot a 10 cm bird down with a shot gun
he's got the chick that his friends told him he couldn't get
he walks to a Colombian bazaar and puts a gun in the mouth of a Colombian BIG guy informer
he can choke the truck driver with one hand and shout : i'm your boss
he just wants to get Scobar so badly for no personal reason
he give those pictures to newspaper and laughs says : *beep* the president even though he knows this could mean war and lot o people would die
and he says the most racist line in history of TV :
scobar said better grieve in Colombia than sail to us...that works for me

LOL, so true! I wouldn't be surprised if in the very last episode of the series, it's Murphy who fires the shot that ultimately kills Pablo!

reply

Typical white savior character...he's the weakest character in the series. They should have made Pedro Pascal's character the main guy...he's far more interesting.

reply

Dead on, him as the lead would take this show to the next level, cut down on the narration too, I think the directors did a good job of establishing scenes well enough without them being explained in detail.

reply

Totally! This Penia guy is far more interesting and attractive and most importantly he gets the job done. This Murphy character gets on my nerves I love this show but I cannot stand this guy!!!!

reply

He does have a personal reason. His partner was killed in America by someone who worked indirectly for Pablo. And while it was his own fault for putting her in that danger, his home was invaded and his wife's cat hanged as a message to him.

reply

he and his partner were running to catch A drug dealer what do you expect ? to drug dealer turn around and kiss them ?
so if the drug dealer was carrying Heroin he would go to Afghanistan to kill the Afghan drug lords?

his home was invaded and his wife's cat hanged as a message to him.

i think that science was fully fake... in Colombia if they find out identity and that you are a US officer, they'll kill you instantly ... they wont kill the cat , granted ;)

reply

It still gives him a personal reason.

but they weren´t killed by the dealer, but by a hitman sent by Escobar to kill the dealer. Big difference.

in Colombia if they find out identity and that you are a US officer

hardly.

It sounds more like you having a problem with the actor than his most probably accurate depiction

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.

reply

And why did they make him so gay?

reply

I tend to agree with you. He's the one protagonist on a big TV series I find myself not caring for and showing empathy to Pablo Escobar more. That's probably a problem.

reply

Thank you! You nailed it. I don't understand how such a great show, can have such a poor actor and what a badly written role. His smug narrating is so annoying. Btw, don't care for his wife either.

reply

Hey he is American. The whole world knows that whenever someone really "evil" comes along and no one can stop him... America is on the way! How dare that little Colombian have so much money! He needs to die!

reply

I would say that the most annoying thing about him is the narration he delivers. That "cool-guy" voice, along with the clichéd lines, is probably the main thing that keeps this series from being really great.

reply

Yeah he was one of the worst parts of the show to me. He just wasn't charismatic at all and I didn't care about anything he was saying or doing especially since it was so generic. I guess I can't blame him all for that, the dialogue was mediocre.

reply

Agree, he's horrible.

He has all these try-hard Captain America *beep* lines. And he's not even tough, he's a skinny pretty boy, so the whole thing comes off laughable.

I'm not sure if the writers made him look dumb on purpose, or they that's how they think too.

Worst character in an otherwise nice series, anyhow.

reply

@sweetsour

Really? I don't think Holbrook looks the least bit like a pretty boy at all (he's not bad-looking,though) not even by Hollywood standards, but that's just IMHO, though, lol.
