Can we get a round of applause for Wagner Moura?

Magnificent performance. Well done, Sir.

I am currently on season 2 and love him as Pablo. It is a great performance but his accent hinders it from being flawless. Still very impressive.

How about you read my post before you get your panties in a bunch. I said it was otherwise a great performance. And yeah sorry, I am the stupid one for thinking that speech is an essential part of a performance.

He didn't sound like Pablo because had trouble pronouncing words in Spanish. If you're not a native Spanish speaker you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

Like I said, I give him props for learning Spanish so quickly, and the rest of his performance was excellent.

I wouldn't want a different actor as Pablo, just stating one thing that could have been improved.

Probably the director's fault anyway.

reply

Firstly, I am a native speaker. Secondly, Colombians speak Spanish como si tuvieran un papa en la boca. I can barely understand them at the best of times.

No you didn't say speech before, you liar, you said "accent", they are both completely different things. "He didn't sound like Pablo"? lol, you do realize that would be near impossible right? even Oscar winning actors can't sound exactly like the characters they are portraying. And no it couldn't have been improved. What exactly is the director's fault? that you are stupid?

reply

It's una papa en la boca and you need to chill. The delivery could have definitely been improved. Are you Wagner Moura or why are you getting so offended? Cálmate hermano. And it could have been the director's fault because he tells his actors how to portray the characters and deliver lines from the script. Oh and an accent is part of a person's speech. Next time try a better comeback than just calling someone stupid cause you got your feelings hurt. If you haven't noticed from my past posts (do you even read them?) I keep on praising his performance and am a big fan of his. I look forward to seeing him in movies. Now please stop embarassing yourself, we both like him as an actor, I am just pointing out something that many people agree with. Have a blessed day.

Sorry, but maybe you have trouble hearing because Colombian Spanish is considered by many
to be the purest Spanish in the world. There is a reason that Colombian news anchors are sought after in US Spanish language networks such as CNN en Español or Univision.

I think you have Colombians confused with Cubans or Dominicans because they are the ones that sound as if they have a hot potato in their mouths when they speak!

reply

I meant the poor, uneducated Colombians from the slums, which were the same kind that worked for Pablo. When they speak fast and in slang they are hard to understand. In South America it's a famous phrase that Colombians sound like they have a papa en la boca.

reply

I'm sure the poor and uneducated from any country are hard to understand! Ever hear poor people from Kentucky speak?

Here is what others say about Colombian Spanish:

reply

Well there you go then. Anyway I'm not really debating this, I was merely pointing out to that person that there was nothing much wrong with Wagner's "speech". She was just nitpicking for no good reason.

reply

Why are so many people pointing out the same thing then? Does Pablo in Narcos sound Colombian? Or even like a native Spanish speaker? The answer is no. Could have been improved. But since it's made for international audiences, most people won't notice the difference.

He sounds like a Brazilian speaking Spanish, and that's cool with me, because I loved his performance and you get used to the way he speaks.

An Oscar worthy performance by Wagner Moura, but let's not pretend like his Spanish doesn't sound foreign.

reply

He doesn't sound like "Brazilian speaking Spanish" you effen liar. Wow so you googled Wagner Moura and found out he is Brazilian, so you said that, gosh you are so damn annoying. Go away.

reply

Dude I am latino and know what brazilians sound like. I have lots of friends from Brazil. I also have friends from Colombia. He doesn't sound Colombian at all. Could you tell me what he sounds like then? Does he sound like a native Spanish speaker to you? I am pointing out the truth and you are getting all mad, yet you forget to read the good things I say about his performance. I am a fan of his, but I won't ignore the truth lile you do. Think I'm crazy? Look over the board and check how many people complained about the same thing. You need to chill dude.

reply

"Dude I am latino"? oh ok you know everything now because you are latino?  I bet you were born in the USA? am I right?

By the way, I was born in South America (Chile), I actually lived in Brasil for 5 years (Goiana, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, I speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently. Trust me, you won't win this argument.

A native Spanish speaker would be someone born in Spain, and no he doesn't sound like a Spanish native. "I am pointing out the truth"? you are just voicing your opinion, there is no truth in an opinion, it's all relative. You really have a lot to learn.

reply

Oh and don't disrespect me ok? I am trying to be respectful with my opinion and you come in here getting all butthurt over the truth. I respect your opinion (although I disagree) so please keep your answers respectful. Thanks and we'll end the discussion on that note. I am done talking to you.

reply

usted es el mas retardado que yo e visto
congratulations. the biggest douche Ive seen in IMDB so far

reply

I learned Spanish from my mom (Colombian) while living in the states and surrounded by Mexicans so I'm pretty open to accents. I noticed his accent was off but it didn't let it bother me at all. Dude nailed the charisma and terrifying presence of the most famous and ruthless drug dealer of all time. Couldn't care less if his speech was a little bit off. Wagner definitely deserves some awards or recognition for his performance!

reply

He is amazing. 👏👏👏👏
One of my favorite actors. =)

reply

he got the personality wrong. not only the accent but the way pablo behaved is off

reply

You're another idiot. The accent will never be 100% spot on. The personality was probably what the producers were after, it has to be dramatized for television.

Did you actually meet Pablo Escobar? Did you live with him for some time? How else would you know what his personality was like.

well... there are videos for one. thats pretty self explanatory. those videos of him show a lot of his character even thought they are short,
there are documentaries and first hand accounts from the people that knew him.

he wasnt the dark. moody, slow talking, angry all the time person that the guy plays him as in the show. thats just terrible. the show is great but the actor is awful if you know spanish or you know people from medellin.

the soap opera got it more closely. they did a better job.
this is closer, look at how fast he talks and at how much he jokes or smiles....
this 2 minute clip is a better representation than 20 episodes of show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x36CpEYpnEU

the narcos Pablo is like a cliche bad guy.

reply

Yeah I saw the video just now, he had the accent of course since the actor seems to be Colombian, but the acting was terrible.

Anyway. you're missing the point, the cliche bad guy is how the producers wanted him to be portrayed in Narcos. Wagner's acting is a billion times better than that cheese ball's acting on that youtube video. You need a presence on screen and that guy doesn't have it.

reply

but the acting was terrible.

thats almost exactly how he acted in real life.... I mean... almost literally how he was...
at least he feels real.

i dont even mind Wagner's cliche bad guy as much as i hate how joyless he made escobar.
he barely smiled. that definitely sucked. he made Escobar feel like a robot sometimes

the funny thing that i found ridiculous and ironic is that the producers of the show tried SO HARD to be realistic in how they made the show in the clothing and the settings and the way the city looked and in the kind of cars they had. the paid SO much attention to detail. they got Real Colombian actors to play the roles.
Most of the show is even in spanish with Subtitles. they even played music from that era n the show.
they went so far to be faithful to the real story of Medellin and pablo. and then the main character feels like a robot 

reply

Awesome performance.

He must of studied Pablo because even his mannerisms were totally believable.

Can't see anyone ever doing Escobar better than Moura.

Fantastico

reply

Agreed. Hope to see him in more things in the future!!
