Presumably it's yet another example of the BBC worrying far too much about ratings... Obviously, you shouldn't spend a great deal of money on something that no one's watching. But, no one seems prepared to let programmes develop and find their feet any more... "Outcasts" certainly needed a few tweaks, but deserved another series... The stunning "In the Flesh" definitely should have continued... Etc... It does seem to be sci fi / fantasy that bears the brunt of such short-termism. (We should be glad that the fans of the wonderful "Being Human" were so vocal, or that would no doubt have been cut short too..!) Yes - it's expensive. But, do it well, promote it properly and treat it with respect and you're more or less guaranteed a very loyal fan base... Plus - those of us who aren't interested in the dreary domestic dramas and reality shows that take up so much of the schedules at the moment pay our licence fees too..! Anyway, the decision to cancel "Atlantis" seems particularly bizarre considering that series two is just getting better and better... I do miss the cheesy humour. (There was a bit too much of it in series one. But, Mark Addy, in particular, does comedy so well that it's a shame not to make use of that...) The more serious mood apparently means that Jason has to keep his clothes firmly on... And, Pasiphae is a bit too full-on evil. (You don't want a cheesy pantomime villain. But, Pasiphae is psychopathic, which is a bit out of step with the mood of the rest of the show...) However, series two has been gripping. (We haven't had any of the "filler" episodes, which were a bit of a problem during series one...) And, I think the acting is very good... Take the business with Medusa last night... Because Addy, Donnelly, Emms and Rooper have created characters you actually care about, it was properly sad!
