Didn't they know it was being cancelled?
Yet they still didn't edit the finale so that it wasn't a complete cliffhanger? Why didn't they alter it? I don't understand that at all.

shareYes they cancelled Atlantis but they could bring it back as Jason: The journey
shareRe-editing takes time and money. And occasionally requires actor availability for reshoots. So it's not cheap or easy. Plus if a show gets cancelled because it's not getting the ratings, then nobody cares enough to do it.
shareI doubt the editing was done when the cancellation was announced. From what I read elsewhere they didn't even stop filming till January. Keeping Pasiphe dead and ending with the wedding or the trip home to Atlantis would have worked fine as a series conclusion.
Sure they could bring it back as a Jason and the Argonauts tale... but they won't do that at all as they couldn't fund it as Atlantis... so they won't fund it under another name. I'm not against having hope for a series, but this one is done.
Here's an article that talks a bit more about what happened:

Doesn't make it any less puzzling as to why they didn't re-shoot the ending or at least come up with a special to tie up all the loose ends. A show about Atlantis where Atlantis doesn't even make it to sinking... So disappointing...
I would have done the same thing as them. By keeping it open, you make people want it more and there are lots of companies like Netflix who potentially could pick it up to continue the storyline. There is also the possibility that they just ran out of money.
shareI agree. I hope they create a miniseries or a TV movie to tie up loose ends.
