Yeah it's true this "role" she plays is similar to The Heat, Spy, and Tammy. But have you seen her in Mike and Molly, Gilmore Girls, St. Vincent? People just pretend those things don't exist so they can say she's only capable of one role? It bewilders me honestly.
shareI agree with your comment. Michelle is nothing like Tammy or the character in Spy or even Molly. She really lets it rip in The Boss and has a great time. Tammy had the potential to be a really wild movie, but she held it back and tried to make Tammy forcibly sympathetic and that didn't work. I admire her when she plays a total see you next Tuesday and isn't afraid of "going there".

shareI think she does have versatility. St. Vincent she had a couple really nicely done dramatic scenes. Even in her outlandish comedy roles, she has done butch and feminine, professional and blue collar, sweet and mean, confident and timid.
She does have a signature style of delivery, but you can say that about almost all comedian actors. I don't see how it's any different for other comedic vehicles that have been done for Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Bette Midler, Mike Myers, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Billy Crystal, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, etc.
