This was my worst show of all Leftovers. I didn't appreciate how raw it was, and of course they made the supposed Christian man to be an idiot who has now abandoned his faith because some looney told him to do so.

I wouldn't say its the worst episode. I'd say any episode from Season 1 is the worst, because I can barely remember anything from that season anymore. I remember a several things from Season 1, but not in their entirety. Season 2 and 3 have been really good thus far and memorable. I'm fine with the sex because it is HBO. It's just there to contrast with Matt's uptight life and beliefs. Matt's not an idiot, he's just an asshole. He's always been an asshole. He went parading about the Departed in Season 1, even told Nora about her cheating husband. I wouldn't say he lost his faith because "God" told him to. If anything, "God" mocked him for believing and following him. Regardless if David Burton was "God" or not, "God's" actions have made Matt realize that he has to stop his over-dependence on religion and to stop constantly making sure everything he does is in the name of someone higher than himself. He lost his faith because he hit a breaking point. He had realized he been preaching about treating others with kindness and charity while simultaneously treating people the exact opposite of that. He's learned to accept that life is just life, not some big plan for everyone. That's how I saw it at least. Old Matt would have taken off and not help the police identify the body in the ocean. This new Matt will take the time to help the police do this.

shareThis is much like LOST, they had no idea what they were doing so they got weirder and weirder as a substitute for writing a story and having a point. This whole season has been stupider than normal.
shareI guess you and I are one on this. I now see why they only have 8 episodes instead of 10. They don't have enough good material to make 10 so they are using fillers like this past episode to make their quota.
shareTwo episodes ago they had an entire episode about Kevin Sr. wandering around the desert. Was it a filler as well? I guess it depends on whether you like the character that episode is about, or not. I don't think that creators of the show occasionally make filler episodes in 3rd season, cause it's been going on in all 3 seasons. This gotta be deliberate.
There's already been one episode all about Matt in season 1, then an episode in season 2 all about Nora when she went to the conference, there was one all about Laurie, one about Kevin sr. and now one about Matt again. And probably more similar episodes that I don't remember.
I must have missed the bit where he lost his faith... Anyway, I don't see him as being portrayed as an idiot, but he's a little bit on the fanatical side. And like Nora and Kevin he's lost the plot. Hopefully Laurie can get them all in group therapy before the flood.
Overall I liked the episode. I wasn't expecting a sex boat, or Matt being almost sexualy assauted, but I didn't think it was a bad episode. And so far three of the five episodes have been about a specific character, so they have to be doing it for a reason.
This is true. They do seem to be focusing on one person each episode. I wonder how much more we will see of Nora and Matt?

Being overly emotional and reactionary isn't the best way to make someone listen to your point of view. Calling people irrational nuts puts them on the defencive, and shuts down any channels of communication.
Look up some articles or interviews/talks of people who've left religious cults (the most extreme forms of religious indoctrination), like the WBC, and find out what made them listen to people on the other side of the argument.
I was just kidding. I love irrational people. In fact, some of my friends and family members are dummies.
shareI think they were building up to them all going to Australia. Sort of, for us to better see what motivates them. As we move closer to Whatever-It-Is, I hope that Nora and Matt would be very involved.
I just hope to see very little of Tom, because I hate that guy.
