The finale...

I'm not going to spoil anything since most probably haven't seen it yet...but I liked it. I've had some disappointments with this season and the loss of 2 major character but, for me, they really managed to pull it off.
And despite the usual dismal nature of this show...it was strangely uplifting..

Totally agree. I wanted a happy — or happy-ish ending— and I got it.

reply

I loved it. I think it was one of the most satisfying finales I've ever seen.

(spoilers) it was the like the opposite of GOT. they spent the whole season dumping on Noah and then turned him into the old wise sage who redeems himself in the end. Overall it was a good ending. I thought it was interesting/funny that Helen and her mom died in the same year. Probably tormented her to the end.

reply

You mean Helen..

GOT left me sad and angry..This one left me feeling good.
Viva la difference

Yeah...I did feel bad for Helen that she never got any relief from that woman. But. hey..her Mom had to have been 100+ so most likely was in a ritzy home. But I do wonder how they died.
A car wreck maybe? Some catastrophe?

reply

thank you, I corrected my original post.

reply

You are totally right! GOT left me wanting to smash the TV having spent years watching it.

I think this was the best finale since "Six Feet Under." I also have a soft spot for the finale of Breaking Bad, but it was sad.

I noticed the gravestone dates too. Poor Helen, nagged and berated her whole life by her bitter mom.

Parts felt like a rom com towards the end which was expected to not end on such a sour note but that disgusting trash daughter ruined any 'happy' ending for me.

I agree that Whitney should have been put down at birth. But the other kids turned out well in the end. Frankly, if a kid turns out like Whitney, the parents are the only ones to blame.

reply

Good ending, i assume they re married because of the gravestone no longer saying Butler. and I like to think that where Noah danced at the end was where they got married again.

Only thing is I wish we knew more about where all the kids are in their lives is Whitney still married, we know Stacy is a writer.. but what about the other 2 sons etc

Thumbs up from me. It was a great drama that I never got tired of.

Overall, satisfying. I guess it would have been too much to ask for all the show’s villains (Ben, Sasha, Furkat) to suffer shame and punishments for their heinous acts/crime. Sigh. Just hearing that one of them faced consequences would have been a little gift at the end.

Joani was a sour character. Not very interesting in the end. Why bring Eddie in? That was odd. Was he there only to embody that theory about inheriting trauma?

More info on the kids would have been better too.

Noah alone in his seafood purgatory at the storm ravaged end of earth was sad. For all his faults, Noah was a hapless, clumsy protagonist.

I guess my favorite part was seeing Stacey’s name as the author of “Montauk”. There was a hint she had Noah’s talent when she told that story about the space traveling lovers.

The only thing I didn't like was that Alison's murderer got away with it. Wished he got what he deserved. Everything else was great and we really went on a journey with all of them. i missed Alison though. She was my favourite character.
