The concrete on his shoes would be dry by the time he got home from work!!

And he changed his shoes at the work site anyway...this utterly ruined the movie for me😃

He left footPRINTS that will stick to kitchen floor like stone, he was nok walking in sloppy cement and walking all over the floor. Even if he changed shoes, there will cement dust (or "mud" with cement in it if it rains) on the building site walking to the car. Then walking to the house will not remove everything from his shoes, and there will be plenty for leaving footprints.
Not a plot hole at all.
