End question (*spoiler*)

was there any special significance of that paraglider dying ? Seemed so forced, he just flew into the machine... If it was supposed to be comical I dont see it, I think the end wouldve been perfect without that silly scene.

reply

He was one of the Serbian gang members no? I guess as a rule everyone had to go... except the 2 most famous actors that is :)

Yes that's right. Earlier in the film where the Serbs are horsing around in the snow and Papa is looking on admiring the kids slaloming, one of the Serbs shouts up at Radovan and says "Radovan! What do you think you are? An eagle?"

reply

It took a long time for him to land.....he started out during bright daylight and by the time he crash-landed into the snowplow, it was evening/nighttime....that's a long time to stay up in the air in such cold weather!

reply

I do agree that he stayed up a long time in the air, but to be fair, darkness falls quickly and early in the northern regions. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, it's dark in the winter.
Considering that the shootout was something the cops would have responded to quite quickly, and Greven was mashed during daylight, but it was dark when the cops talked to him, you might get an understanding how quickly it gets dark up there.
Nevertheless, he had to have glided about for more than an hour or so anyway.

Some might find me morally challenged or morally ambiguous. I prefer morally creative.

reply

I assumed that he was already dead, bearing in mind how cold it would have been and the length of time he had been up there in just an ordinary suit.

reply

If the Serbs left without waiting for him to land and since he didn't know where they were going, he might have just stayed at the mountain taking additional paragliding trips.

reply

As soon as I saw that snow blower I was waiting for a mobster to go through it. I think it was just to add a little comedy to the end, and for me it worked :)

reply

It worked quite well for a good laugh for me too despite the length of time that had past. That guy seemed a bit off so I could imagine some inexperienced goofball staying out too long or going far off of the correct path and in a last ditch attempt to land, flying straight into the turbine by accident, which was shot just perfectly from behind imo.

Great ending to a great film, Norwegian films are without a doubt my most favorite foreign language films.

I wanted to mention also, what in the heck was with that guy's wall being decorated with hand gestures? I was thinking to myself, what did he knock off a sign language school? I guess chalk it up too his rather strange eccentricities, like the face chairs.

reply

It worked for me. At the end I almost forgot about that guy. Also the death was a brillant demonstration of point the director was trying to make that no one can escape karma. You can fly like a bird for a long time but eventually You hit the ground. I think it was also a tribute to a Fargo, which was for me very alike to this movie. There was a similar scene with branch cutter. As soon as I saw those enormous propellers I knew someone will end up in them.

So perhaps the fact that Greven owned a Fisker Karma was not accidental after all..
