Jeeez, this show has really gone downhill

Just watch Series 7, episode 1, the one with the pedalo.

What a load of rubbish...I used to love this show so much, but has been getting worse and worse since series 5.

I thought it dipped a bit last series but I thought “merrily merrily “ wasn’t too bad.
Any ideas where it was filmed?

reply

Nice premise but incredibly poor ending.

A real shame after getting Mark Gatiss and Diane Morgan involved. They deserved a better episode.

Episode 2 was a bit pervy wasn't it... Didn't work for me, had a really off tone about it, with the sexual abuse story line and photos of genitals... Sort of thing Jimmy Savile might have enjoyed I guess.

What the hell has happened to this show.

The 2022 Xmas Special was crap too, just saw it earlier.

Such a drop in quality this show

reply

Just watched it - it was rubbish.

It wasn't "inside" anything. Sure I get that's it's been going for years now and does it really matter but that's the core premise of the show! Also they had to set up the crappy ending sign posted exposition scene right before the ending!

Why even bother any more if you can't be bothered putting any effort in?

reply

it was The Wicker Man, Midsommer, and The Hunt rolled into one

reply

the show is best when it's thriller, suspense, or horror,
when they try to be poignant or emotional it gets a bit corny

reply

Still one of the best things on TV though.

I have been a harsh critic since Season 6, but I actually really enjoyed the 3x3 Quiz Show episode, first time I wanted to rewatch an episode straight away since the good old days of seasons 1-5

Did not quite work (a lot of nothing for the first ten minutes...which was okay for watching it "live" and expecting the Buses episode), but then subtle little things began to happen.... Yes that episode was a B+ after a lot of C's.

Season 8 is proving to be the worst to date.

Apparently they are going to put the show on hold after season 9 which is probably for the best.

reply

I think they basically needed to do something different with it, and I think hour long (or 45 minute) episodes may actually have been good for some of the recent seasons, particularly Season 8 which actually had some decent stories but seemed very rushed (The Last Weekend and The Online Dating episodes I do think we're very good and interesting, with some great acting and touching stories that deserved longer on screen...but then slapped in the typical last minute twist thing).

Just feels like everything is rushed now, I would like to see them go to longer episodes for the final season.

reply

The online dating one was busted from the start - the radio broadcast at the start quite oddly didn't say "women", so I instantly turned to the missus and called it.

I think they're probably best just not making episodes if they don't have anything. Probably the best leftfield element of the season was "3 by 3". But then who's watching live TV anymore to be fooled by that? Or if they are, are they going to be fooled by that anyway since they've already done that on the Halloween episode...

reply

Was the second show I saw and I thought it was great.

To each their own.

reply

Maybe it's passed it's best but it's still one of the most innovative and entertaining programmes on TV.
