Pemberton and Shearsmith are superb actors
I say Pemberton first because I think that his performances in the Tom & Gerri and The Understudy episodes were absolutely beautiful.
Anyone only familar with his role in Benidorm might not realise the profound sense of tragedy he can bring to a role.
But Shearsmith, with his placid youthful looks, is perfect for the gothic, vampiric, roles as well as the roles that suggest a calm yet put upon character who could reach their tipping point at any time.
They are a match made in heaven and TV is so lucky to have them consistently making such intelligent shows.
My only gripe is that I don't feel that the endings of some of the episodes, Tom & Gerri included, lived up to the rest of the episode.
