On the subject of the supernatural... *eerie music*

Now, firstly, I think this show is fantastic. As is always the case with the anthology format it has its highs and lows – but I even think that series two, so far, has been less wobbly than the first one. Even if no other episode has been able to match the brilliance of "A Quiet Night In". Yet.

I'm still undecided regarding the ending of the witch smeller episode (which the next few sentences are probably gonna contain spoilers up to), though, for the following reason:

Because all previous episodes have not had any necessarily supernatural elements, the revelation of human cruelty/madness has been what's made each ending – especially "The Harrowing" – so, well, harrowing. In "Elizabeth Gadge", however, the final twist is undeniably supernatural. And i did like it, especially as my expectations had been muddled after the reveal of Reece under the hood – but still. It sort of takes away form the creepiness of the show being potentially set in the real world.

What do you think? Does the show disobey its own unwritten rules – or is it in fact, as always, going for the most unexpected solution? Because, after all, what we do know for sure about reality's medieval witch trials is that they were horrible persecutions and executions of innocents.

I don't mind supernatural elements, and love the final twist of "Elizabeth Gadge".
