I really thought that the movie was going to end differently

I really enjoyed this movie and cried really hard at the part on the beach when Louisa tells Will she loves him. I thought he would change his mind though! I really thought the ending would be Louisa going to Switzerland, Will changing his mind, and then he dies a few weeks/months later of pneumonia or something. I was really expecting this and was let down when it wasn't that way. Also, did Will love Louisa or did he only have slight "feelings" for her? I felt like Louisa loved him a lot more.

I don't think he could love her and do what he did.

Well, Will was very willful and headstrong. I believed he loved her as the man he was now. If he had meet her before the accident, she may have been considered for a fling at best. He loved his mother, he loved his father, and he loved Louisa, but his love for them could not overcome the contempt he had for this new life of his. A life spent confined to a wheelchair. He said himself he loved his old life. He had no use for his new life and wanted out.
