How much do you think he given Lou?
Not enough to sit around for a life time - but enough for a new start.
How much would that be in the UK 2016 context?
£30k?

Considering he was filthy rich and she is a healty 26 year old woman. I am thinking at least a million to cover for college and maybe start a new business.
For sure he didnt leave her 30k. I mean even 10 million is not enough for a lifetime of a rich person so I am thinking few millions.
10 million is a tremendous amount and would set you up for a lifetime. You'd live off the interest quite comfortably.
He didn't want her to sit around idly he wanted her to go to university and set herself up, so I very much doubt he gave her 10 million or even close to it.
I said 30k initially as that's enough for 3 years at Uni then find work.
Reading the subsequent replies I'm thinking £100,000? Imo that's more than what she got.
I think Will knew Lou's family was what's keeping her there. So the money he knew he left - Lou would have in part given to her parents to ease their pressure.
I mean in the UK context for someone like herself for the specified purpose (assume the money isn't enough to get a cottage, etc) - 30k-50k is plenty! Though with family - it's more.
Then again there is the modest English understatement - maybe "don't freak, it's not enough for you to sit around for a life time" actually meant it's a significant amount, e.g. 250k.
You had 10 million written down and changed it.
30k would be enough to get a degree yes as it would pay the tuition fees but it wouldn't pay for much else being you'd have only 3k left to buy materials and pay for rent.
These days 250k isn't that much. It'll get you a flat and that's about it.
10 million is plenty for a upper middle class but if you know how much uber rich spending yearly, its a lot.
For a uberrich person 10 million may not be enough for a lifetime as they can spend that amount yearly.
In any case I think he left her a few million which will be enough for college and setting up her own clothing company.
She's not uberrich. On 10 mill you'd get roughly 600,000 pounds a year purely off interest. That's not upper middle class. That's extremely wealthy.
Wouldn't be a clothing company, she'd be a designer they open a label or a house lol.
First of all where do you get your credits. I am a banker I dont think you can get 600K pounds for 10 million dollars at yearly interest.
More importantly the idea is HE IS uber rich all his life and not her and he is the one who decided how much he wanted to leave her.
When he said, relax I didnt left you enough that you wont have to do anything, an uber rich guy could easily think few millions like 1-3 would not be enough for a lifetime.
I got my numbers from about 6 or 7 different websites on average interest on 10 million pounds. 6% interest. If you're a banker you can tell me how much 6% of 10 mil is.
Putting it into perspective you can buy an 8 bedroomed house down a private drive in one of the most expensive areas of the uk (bar london) for 1 million. 9 million spending money would set you up for life. Fact.
Even 3 million would. Money makes money.
Is someone telling porkies?

Not enough for a lifetime...according to Will's standard though...
Enough to give her indipendence, so to buy somewhere nice to live ( this alone means a lot of money, especially if she chooses to move to London ), enough to pay for full time education, enough to give her the chance to do all those things he wanted her to do...travel...possibly help her family a bit... ( since he knew how much she loved them...)
I'd say at least a milion, probably more.
I'd say honestly about £250,000. University fees are best part of £20,000 per year for 3 years so taking that in to consideration if I was in Will's position is do the same. Of course the unanswered question was what was Will's net worth.
shareI wouldnt be surprised if Wills familys net worth is at least a billion. Think about the castle they own and the place they have owned it plus the huge company.
He is the sole heir and their only son. I dont think they would have mind if he made a decision to leave 2-3 million pounds to the girl they seemed to like also.
Lol you can buy a castle for less than a million these days. A lot of the Lord's and ladies who own them have to live in quarters to show them off to the public as running them cost so much money that they struggle. Plus not to mention the money theyd've spent on his care.
Not everyone whose born into these places are like the Windsors.
I was think at least half a mil, if not a full million. At first I thought maybe 100k, since you could technically make a new start with that, but even that amount is still rather limiting overall. So I figured at least 500k could get a person going without having to worry or struggle financially. But then I'm sure Will was not thinking to give her only the minimal amount she would need to be struggle-free, so that's why I figure a solid, even million.
