Guzaarish? Anyone?

This movie reminded me of a Bollywood movie Guzaarish (2010). Anyone else with me?

I've had Guzaarish on my watch list for some time now. Are you telling me Hrithik's character dies at the end also?

Is Guzaarish as good as Me Before You?

reply

I won't tell you anything, just that it was really good. In my opinion, Guzaarish was more beautiful, since I love ''dark'' movies.

I had never watched a Bollywood movie before so I tried this one, since you mentioned it here, and it was interesting, but I guess it's not for me: half english and half hindi ( I think ), very "invasive" music... not my kind of films, I didn't finish it.

There's a scene where she forces him to take sleeping medication, I mean really forces him because he keeps on saying "no, no... I don't want it, you can't give it to me without my consent" and I hated it

Yeah, ok. Bollywood isn't for everyone. :) There are 3 kinds of movies: good, bad, and Bollywood. :) Why did you hate that scene?

She loved him but in that scene I really felt like she had no respect for him, she sedated him against his will. It's against the law ( in my country, but in India too, according to what he said ) to force someone to take meds , it's "violence" when they cannot refuse because they cannot move, I don't know ...it just disturbed me. :( He did not want to be sedated, he wanted to think, she treated him like a madman.

I agree with you that its a "dark" movie, the big, dark decaying house was a strong metaphor, I liked that.
It was interesting to see something different, even if I realized it's not my kind of cinematography.

Interesting! I didn't find that scene disturbing, since I didn't know that those things can be against the law. Thank you for that. I am from Montenegro (Europe), and I don't actually know if there is any law in that case here. But, beside that, even if there wasn't a law, it is not good thing to do.

Do you think that she was a bit selfish? She didn't want to be hurt by his death.

I'm from a European country too and it's in our constitution : no one can be forced to undergo any medical treatment against their will. Unless you are mentally ill, unable to decide or underage ( in this case parents and a judge may have some influence). We do not have euthanasia / assisted suicide.

So in the film we have this man, who's clearly able to decide and he's forced by his doctor and nurse to take meds ....and it got to me, he was literally screaming "you can't do this, it's against the law..."
She was following doctor's orders, she was thinking she was doing the right thing. Was she selfish...? Well she loved him and did not want to loose him, same as in "me before you",but I think in the end she understood him and helped him I am not sure though , I actually fast forward it...:(

I know English is widely spoken in India, it's spoken in all areas, whereas different areas may have different languages and dialects, I think in this movie it was Hindi, but I don't know...it was set in Goa ( Goa is quite "European" in a way, I was part of the Portuguese empire )
Visually it was an interesting film to watch, thanks for the suggestion.

And oh, one more thing; almost every Bollywood movie is half hindi-half english (not the ones with historical themes, before British invasion). In India, english language is ''almost'' official in school. :)
