She did nothing!!!

This is a movie so it should has a point.
We watch about 2 hours of a movie to see that she failed ok any other person could do that so what was the use of her!?
I know the ending was logical but I'm not talking about a good ending or bad ending, i`m just talking about Lou's role in the movie, doing nothing?

reply

Doing nothing? She made the last months of his life worth living and gave him a whole lot of happiness before leaving this world. That's how bad he hurts physically and mentally. That even after falling in love with her he still wanted it to end. Living in chronic pain really sucks, I know. Throw in being paralyzed and being in and out of the hospital constantly, pretty miserable.

reply

It`s just cliche "made the last months of his life worth living and gave him a whole lot of happiness ",It would worth if he wanted to live.

reply

Rubbish. The clichéd ending would be them running off into the sunset together.

reply

*rolling off. ;P

reply

Nah running. He'd have miraculously got the feeling back in his legs lol

reply

The power of love can overcome EVERYTHING and make miracles happen!!!!


...a little fantastic, and fleeting, and out of reach.

reply

In that case, they'd be shagging, not running LOL!

reply

That's just pure cliche though. Something that only ever happens in a film. No wonder many disabled people were furious with the film.

reply

Cliche tropes are not always bad. And Lou isn't the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, here. Will is. While it's true that Louisa did make him happy for whatever time he had left, she wasn't able to change Will's mind about Dignitas. He's the one who changed her life.

reply

Cliches in films about disability are particularly bad, particularly when they are used to manipulate the audience to cry. He changed her life in the film. But the whole film was pure fantasy and should be treated that way. And awful as well.

reply

You missed the point. He saved her, not the other way around.

reply

That is true

reply

Saved her from what? Her own limited earning capacity? Having a boring boyfriend?

reply

From never going anywhere or doing anything, allowing the combo of fear/insecurity/obligation keep her in the same place for her whole life. This was better fleshed out in the book because there's a whole scene where she tells Will about a traumatic experience that happened to her as a teenager, which was a big reason why she decided to not attend university away from home. And her sister/family situation was more frustrating in the book too, so you were rooting for Lou to get freedom from that too.

reply

Her role was to get all of the guy's money in order to get her happy ending.

reply

Guess you weren't paying attention, then. 

reply

Yeah, I did pay attention. She made him happy in his last days, and stuff. But at the very end, she got her happy ending because of his money. (because he wasn't alive to give her the happy ending).

reply

You're missing the point.
He gave her the confidence to go for her dreams not just a wad of cash.

reply

It was a good movie. Yes it seems like most people are out for free cash these days. But not this girl in the movie. It was clear that she loved him.

Would you rather have it so realistic that nothing happens? He just hires a old-lady nurse and the whole movie is boring.

reply

Agreed! The point of most movies is an escape from reality. Call it Cliche, call it fantasy, it's an escape. One either likes the movie or doesn't.

reply

Since the begining it was stated that the reason she didn't pursue her dreams was money.

reply

It wasnt just that. She didn't feel like she was good enough. Watch it again.
You could have all the money in the world but if you have no confidence you'll achieve very little

reply

Good thing she found the confidence to summarily dismiss the loser who'd invested 7 years of his life with her. Way to go Lou!

Actually she didn't even do that. She just neglected him until he left.

reply

The loser who invested 7 years of his life with her obviously invested nothing into her. He was all about himself only, and wanted her around only as a supportive audience and cheering squad. Her happiness, wants and needs were never considered by him. He gave her a pendant with HIS name on it for her birthday. How self absorbed is that? He wanted her to go to Norway only so he could do his marathon, and for no other reason. They lasted for 7 years only because it was a relationship of convenience for both of them, just for different reasons.

reply

You are absolutely right.

You can dismiss what that guy says - judging by his other posts on this board, he's got some serious issues with women.

reply

Hahahahahaaha, lol sarcastic enough, huh?
