why, people

Why. 😢 I saw a trailer for this movie and was intrigued enough to come on here and see what it's about. I'm not familiar with the play. I thought there was an ominous undertone to it, lol, like maybe the dad was secretly a murderer or something, so I was curious.

But then, what do I see on here? A bunch of posts mocking the fact it's a "black" movie...or bemoaning the fact it might deal with race issues...

I mean really?? Really? Are we really still this weak? Insecure? Pissed off? Bitter? What? The people making those remarks, what is your problem? Why so much hate? Why want to deny things african americans have gone through? Why comment on the fact that it's "all black" at all, especially as something eye roll worthy? How are minorities, especially black, ever even going to think they have a fighting chance of equality with this constant kind of *beep* reactions from people? Like ooh, how dare there be a black film...it must be some kind of evil "statement"...what? Give it a damn rest. I just don't get it. Get over yourselves. It's not a threat to the order of the world. Just people that aren't all-white sharing a voice, a movie, too. Why is that getting so much flack, just for existing?

It's so damn tiring and old. And then these same complaining people wonder why black people feel their voice isn't heard, are still upset, etc...

I don't know about everyone else as I haven't read a bunch of comments, but this reminds me of the observation made earlier in the year by Marc Bernardin of The Hollywood Reporter: "Why do Black Films Have to Be About MLK and White Movies Can Be About a Mop Inventor?" The gushing praise by people who haven't even seen the movie says a lot, as if they are just trying too hard to make a public show of non-discriminatory appreciation. Where are these people for other roles by Washington and Davis that don't involve the subject of racial discrimination or related topics? Have they even seen "Doubt," for example?
