Sure movie is good, but won't see it on xmas

Denzel Washington is a fine actor and it's nice that he's branched out into directing as well and the movie itself looks good. But on Xmas I really wouldn't want to consebtrate on anything having to do with bigotry or I'll treatment of others.

It's a drama about a black family set during the '50s, so how could it not deal with bigotry and racism? Why does that even bother you? I mean, seriously.

reply

oh really? Is that what it's about? I'll wait to see it on demand. Sounds a little boring.

reply

I think the OP means that Christmas (a holiday of warmth, happiness, & love) isn't the time to watch a movie dealing with racism, hostility, & overall nastiness.

This is about a family that happened to be black living in the late 50's and early 60's.
August Wilson wrote this play which was on Broadway for a long period. Racism doesn't change the facts and just because it's CHRISTMAS.

reply

I think he meant he just wanted to see something a little more light hearted on Christmas Day.

reply

I agree with OP. Denzel is my favorite actor but I don't want any 'negativity' on Christmas Day. As it's almost a sure contender for best picture/best actor and maybe more, I will see it in the next weeks,

I would have released the film sooner myself or in January to avoid Star Wars.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

Denzel directed two other movies before.
Sorry you intend on not supporting a movie where you could see more nuances on a big screen. I watched an academy screener, but I'm still going to theater to watch again with audience.

I saw Fences today, Christmas, at a multiplex. At the same time the rest of the family saw Rogue One. Everyone went home happy.

For me, the story was about an individual, his family, how his choices affected him and his family and how the lack of opportunities for black mens' advancement at that time affected those choices.
