The sun (SPOILER)

I loved this movie. Bad timing, don't think it should have come out during Christmas; nevertheless, an excellent movie.

The very last bits have me puzzled, though.

I love the end when Gabe blows soundlessly hard on his trumpet to call out to St. Peter, but what is the deal with the sun?

The way they looked at the sun, it looked like they've never seen the sun before. I know it was to symbolize St. Peter's opening the gates, but the complete awe on their faces was so over-the-top.

Did I miss something? At the end, did they say that it was going to be cloudy all day and the sun peeking out at just the right time was a surprise, or did they just overdo their astonishment?

Thank you very much for your interest.

This was a play adaptation I think it was filmed like it was a play no fancy cinematography so the thing to watch was the actors responding to what happens not some amazing CGI it was seeing how they felt more so.

You've got it.

I thought the look of awe was over the timing. He was blowing and blowing and nothing happened. When he finally hit the note, the sun immediately came out so it was a "You did that???" kind of moment.

A similar scene might be the final scene from "Miracle on 34th Street" (I hope you've seen it, because otherwise this next bit won't make any sense.) After Fred, Doris, and Susan find their dream house, they look over in the corner and see Kris Kringle's cane. I'm sure they've all seen a cane before, but given the context, they too were in a state of awe.

Both of you,

Thanks a whole lot for responding! I understand now.

And I did see "Miracle on 34th Street." The cane reference made it very clear.

Best!

It wasn't so much that, but if you go back and watch, the cloud formation was formed around the blue sky in the perfect cutout of an angel with his wings spread, and then the sun came through the opening.

Wow, I completely missed that!
