So Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, or Viola Davis?

I heard talk about Jessica Chastain for Miss Sloane but that seems a long shot now.

Viola has campaigned for Supporting not Lead.

Best Actress will be taken by Bening probably.

The Academy has the FINAL SAY not the STUDIO. I hope Viola is nominated for BEST ACTRESS and not supporting actress.

reply

Yes, Academy decides but Davis' studio has already mounted a Supporting campaign for her. And she has been nominated for Supporting for every other award shows till now. Academy rarely breaks this norm.

Either way, if she gets the nod for Best Actress, then her chances of a win is not very spectacular and she might just lose since three of the other big contenders for the category (Adams, Bening & Huppert) are all long overdue. Academy also likes newer faces like Negga and Stone, and let's not discount Portman yet. If she's in the Supporting category, then a win is more or less absolute, as her only true competition there are Harris and Williams.

Tell that to Harvey Weinstein, he'll have a good laugh.

 Ain't that the truth?

She knows that the academy are going to give it to mediocre Portman so she's willing to step down to supp actress. Actually kind of disappointing but Davis needs to win the award to maintain her asking price per picture.

That's why I hate the oscars

reply

She can out act all of those women but sadly she does have a better chance of winning in the supporting category.

reply

Wait are people seriously saying Amy is gonna get nominated for which movie? Cause Nocturnal animals and Arrival were both very good movies. But her acting was nowhere near oscar worthy in both of those films.

On the other hand I haven't seen Portmans performance yet but I'm sure Viola knocked it out of the park. But yes I agree it's very sad she has to campaign for supporting cause she knows she has a better chance of winning.

Viola Davis has done a excellent performance! Nuff Said!

reply

But that is both sad and pathetic Viola Davis is a LEAD ACTRESS and her performance was definitely a LEAD. To be put in the supporting category is disappointing. I think Natalie Portman is extremely overrated but she is white and young so I can see the Academy giving her the Oscar and not Viola.

reply

Neither. You know Meryl is going to win again

reply

Viola.

Actors are useless without the power of a good writer's imagination

reply

Neither, Emma Stone will probably win lead actress.

Davis is going supporting, and she will very possibly win. Her biggest competition seems to be Michelle Williams for "Manchester by the Sea."

Aside from Stone, noms for Best Actress are likely to come down to Portman, Adams for Arrival, and two slots for one of the following: Annette Benning, Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga. Chastain deserves one of the last two slots, but it's a long shot for her. Personally, I don't think Huppert should be seriously considered as her performance doesn't touch Benning's, Negga's or Chastain's.

That said, Davis should be in the lead category along with Stone, Portman, Negga, and Chastain, but that's just my opinion.

Viola Davis in whatever category they put her in, hands down!
