Is the OP serious you obviously have amnesia. I guarantee Casey Affleck is going to win the best actor Oscar. He has a powerful brother who is A list Ben Affleck AND Matt Damon also A list and family friend is a producer of Manchester By The Sea. In addition, Harvey Weinstein is a powerbroker in Hollywood. I would be VERY SURPRISED if Denzel won given the fact he is already a 2 time Oscar winner. Blacks cannot cry racism this time. As for Viola Davis disappointed she might be in the supporting category does not seem right. If Davis wins the supporting actress Oscar it still seems like a huge disappointment me. It is disgusting Halle Berry has the best actress Oscar she isn't even black she is HALF WHITE. And Berry is a horrible actress too.

" I guarantee Casey Affleck is going to win the best actor Oscar. "

Nope. His sexual harassment cases will doom his chances of winning. And a year after #OscarsSoWhite, you think they're NOT going to give it to Denzel? Quit being silly.

reply

He doesn't have to win;he's got one as it is. Just a nomination would suffice a lot of people I believe.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

reply

Actually, Denzel has 2 Oscars: Best Supporting Actor for Glory and Best Actor for Training Day.

reply

That hasn't turned away other big critics award shows to hand him the Best Actor prize. Casey's a deadlock for win. Heed the words. Denzel will get a nod but not a win. Ali and Davis are the strongest contenders for Supporting prizes. You think they'll give away 3 acting awards to Black people in the same night? That's pushing the propaganda.

OP, you DO realize that if Denzel and Viola Davis both get dukes Oscar night, everyone will attribute it to the crying/inappropiate fallout from last year right? To kind of "make up for it". It'd be forced victories. Too bad.

reply

Ali has been dominating the supporting category, so even his and Davis' win would make up for the unnecessary outrage last year (well this year technically). That seems more likely than a Washington-Davis pair win since Washington has already won the prize twice before, and like someone above said to be the third time you need a perfect recipe. His performance and character in Fences falls short of that.

The Women Film critics circle gave him the award. So much for that theory.

Denzel already has 2 Oscars he will probably get a nomination.

There was an "Oscars So White" controversy two years ago and it didn't change the nominees, even though they weren't all white that year either. The Academy isn't going to change how it votes. What's so bad about all this is that most of the people praising and putting down the movie wouldn't have even seen it.

reply

I feel like Davis has a better chance. She really acted her ass off.

Oscar So White had no legs to stand on because there were no performances by black actors that season which triumphed the Oscar nominees except for Concussion. This year it's a different story with Moonlight posed to take Adapted Screenplay (and maybe Best Picture), Ali's bound to take home Supporting Actor and Davis is a surefire Supporting Actress win unless she goes Lead, where she'll face some very tough competition. And in retrospect, if you look at Academy history in recent times, they have given Black actors and actresses the win when it's deserved (in the past decade 4 out of the 10 best Supporting Actress winners have been Black btw). It was a very badly argued cause.

They were fantastic!

reply

Amen! And Fences deserves Best Picture. But with Hollywood being Hollywood (sigh), you can never tell.

Not in million years. Moonlight, MBtS and La La land and even Silence and Arrival are superior films.
