Re: The ending (spoilers)

IMO, I thought Troy dying was a cop-out. Here you have this "pressure cooker" of a guy slowly building up to explode, and the easy way out is to just have him die. I wanted to ultimately see how he handled his daughter being raise by his loyal wife, his unresolved issues with his son, and his (now-seemingly) tense friendship with Bono. And Bono's thoughts on Raynell and her mother would've been interesting. The writers took the easy way out.

You can't go wrong with Denzel and Viola, but I thought Denzel's performance carried on too much at times. Excellent actor, but a little over-the-top in some scenes. Cut out a few minutes of him and some the previous issues I mentioned could've been touched upon.

August Wilson, one of America's great playwrights, wrote this play in 1983 as part of his "Pittsburgh Series." Fortunately, he also wrote this screenplay. The story is the way real life happens, not some neat, tied up in a bow, ending to suit the movie-goer.

Agree with your points.

I like to watch movies when using the treadmill. Do not know if I would do it otherwise.
