Spoilers! Troy was a...

Troy was straight up a piece of *beep* I really didnt like how at the end it symbolized him going into heaven. I dont believe in that sort of thing but if heaven is real, that POS isn't getting in.
He held his youngest son back at every opportunity, cheated on his wife that kept the household together, was generally an *beep* to everyone in his life except his fat buddy.
Other than the very end, this movie was extraordinary.

I agree that he was not the greatest person and did terrible things to people, but that does not stop one from getting into heaven. There is much more to a person than their exterior actions, and a big part of Christianity is forgiveness.

Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

What about him deserved to get past the pearly gates?

Troy was a flawed individual but he deserved to go to heaven.

How so?

I agree. He was abusive. Usually we condemn women for staying in abusive relationships, but if it's a black family everyone urges her to stay to keep the family together.

I related to this movie. I found out long after my grandfather died, that he was a very mean and abusive husband and father. This was not the way he portrayed himself to the outside world. We all thought he was a saint, very loving and devoted. My grandmother, almost to her dying day, was in church every morning, and participating heavily in church affairs, much like Rose. She stayed with him because that's what people did back then. She continued to make a home for him, cooked, cleaned, etc. but they maintained separate bedrooms. We are white.

Y'all can interject your personal feelings about forgiveness and getting into heaven/hell, but the Bible is clear about what can keep you out, and adultery is one of those things. So......Troy will be goin' south. Don't get ticked at me...I didn't make the rules.

How much of a pass does he get for his tough life? Its a question we are constantly asked to look at in this movie and in general throughout society.

I like to watch movies when using the treadmill. Do not know if I would do it otherwise.
