liquor spill= if you go to sea, some spill for the ocean god. Troy lives by his rules. Everyone does in this family.

shareI think that the liquor spilling is a reference to moonshining. When alcohol is distilled from a fermented mash, the first runnings have a lethal percentage of methanol, which is poisonous. So the first half pint or so is discarded, "given to the fairies" in Gaelic tradition.

It's called a libation. Some people call it "pouring one out". It's the custom of pouring the first few sips of a bottle of whiskey on the ground as a tribute to loved ones who have died and can't drink with you. It's a sign of respect for loved ones passed away. share
