Remember, the photos appear 24-hours ahead of when they're taken (aside from thorium painting). These times are when the photos appear, not when they're taken.

Wow. Nice work.

I'm something new entirely. With my own set of rules. I'm Dexter. Boo.

reply

That means the camera also takes one photo month ahead.

Im a beacon in the darkness, Im the light.

Yeah, it does seem you get a photo in the future when one appears in the past, presumably also taking an image of an event happening even further in the future, which triggers another picture, and another, etc. Until it runs out of film or power, I guess.

The would indicate that the camera has already selected a future that's set all the way out until it ceases functioning.

Worth a bump?

reply

His colleague explained it by saying he was experimenting with taking photos further in the future than just 24 hours. This might have been the only one from a week ahead and he thought it showed his death in the apartment across from him as he wrote in his diary. In trying to avoid his death he ended up dying. This is why this photo appears twice.

reply

The photo didn't appear twice actually. The lady brought the photo with him and at the end we just see through the lens how at that exact moment everything was in its place, but the picture it took at the end that we didn't see would actually show the next morning.

I only say what I mean and mean what I say.

reply

hi!

there's one thing bugging me about your time line, if the police tape was at 12/16 8pm, why isnt the police tape there at 12/17 "thorium painting with blood and hat", so it suggest the "thorium" picture was in fact taken 12/16 somewhere between 8am and 8pm and not the day after like you stated in your time line, and callie is arrested the same day she killed her friends, she was posting up the sign for the next camera shoot and not the next morning as the movie is making us believe, I might be wrong here but it looks that way to me...

also... i read somewhere that the director himself stated that there was a second picture taken the morning after Callie's killing spree...the picture the scientist guy though was his death, and later on he set the camera on a 8am/8pm schedule probably to see if he can stop his death.. there was a statement in the movie that the scientist can set the camera time at any moment, so it was probable that the time of the "thorium" picture was not in fact at 8am...

reply

You're totally correct that there are 3 pictures taken on on the last day. That day is "Mon, 12/17/12 (Day Callie is arrested)".

There's:
1) the 8am photo, which is of Callie posting "SWAP PHOTO TO CHARADE NIGHT, KILL JASPER TO SAVE FINN",
2) the one some unspecified point later of the Thorium painting and blood, and
3) the 8pm one of the police tape.

The 8am and 8pm photos both appear on Sunday, 12/16, 24-hours earlier at their respective times, while the Thorium picture appears 2 weeks earlier on Monday, 11/26.

It's important to note that the times in my original post are when the photos appear in the timeline, not when what they depict actually occurs. My note on the 12/17 mid-day photo was just to indicate it's when the Thorium picture is taken, though we don't see what's actually on the photo that appears out of the machine.

I hope this helps.

reply

I really confused here..
what's the purpose callie posting photo each morning ?

The first time she found the machine with photo is the one with picture "knocked rack and hide last week photos".. we could say it's her guide for each day, so in this case the next morning at 8 am she actually did whatever in that picture (posting that letter "knocked rack.... " ) , right ?..

Moving to the last day, she posted that "SWAP PHOTO TO CHARADE..", then she killed Finn. she actually have one photo to look at the camera, as the camera already taken picture for 8 am the next morning (When she's caught by joe).

my question is actually , what is the photo for the 8 am the day she caught by joe.. (not the picture taken that day, but the picture come out from camere from yesterday) , if she guided by picture, then she would knew already that she couldn't posting that "Dont get Caught..."..
remember that she guided !, So if she trying to post "dont get caught.." it means that she already seen that picture too.. except that she is trying to change it. we never know because as i remember, the film didn't show 8 am photos for the next day after callie killed finn.

i found little problem writing my question, i just hope u understand what i mean.

reply

You're correct that Callie would see the 8am photo and then follow the posted directions at some point during the next 24 hours.

We don't actually see the photo that comes out of the machine at 8am on Monday, 12/17. Nor do we know if Callie actually goes and retrieves that photo at some point after killing Finn, changing her clothes, and posting the "DON'T GET CAUGHT AT WINDOW" sign. She may think it's not important anymore, since she's planning on changing the past. In her mind, that 8am photo would change too, so why bother looking at it?

But since we know nothing changes, we can assume that it's probably much like the 8pm police tape photo, just the next morning. The tape would probably still be up, sunlight, maybe an investigator poking around, something like that.

reply

Okay so all predestinated .
It's funny though how callie think she can change the past. Even so, it would be in another timeline. Because in her present life (present timeline), finn already dead. And her life goes on.

reply

Are we sure nothing changes? Why did she write kill Jasper to save Fin, unless in another timeline fin kills Jasper?

reply

Well, there are two answers.

First, she's just killed Jasper to save Finn. So it makes sense to ensure that her past self knows this event is coming and that killing Jasper does in fact save Finn. She even says "Oh my God, I really killed him", perhaps not believing the note, that she'd really kill Jasper. But she's fairly satisfied with the outcome at that point, since she's thrilled to see that Finn is now willing to fight for their relationship.

Second, she writes it because she already did write it in the future. It's the same event viewed from different perspectives. It's like the camera projects out a possible future, finds one where she wrote that note, and cements that future with a snapshot. At that point, she's already written the note in the future and just needs to catch up to that moment in her own personal timeline.

One problem with having a changeable timeline, as you suggest, is that we can presume there's a timeline where Jasper kills Finn. We then also have to make-up a lot of other assumptions, like Callie must still kill Jasper (else how could she pose for the picture with him running about), only too late to save Finn.

We must also assume that the photo that Callie found did not have the "KILL JASPER TO SAVE FINN" note (or maybe it did, but she was again too late). Maybe it only had the note about switching photos, which the Callie posting THAT note must have decided was something that needed to be done, so we're actually on Callie #3 (at least). So what was in Callie #1's photo, if not these two notes? Some uneventful random thing that leads to Callie #1 needing to post about swapping photos, I suppose. Well, what was THAT Callie doing (Callie #0?). Did she forget about sending herself notes?

If we consider that the camera is taking a picture of an alternate timeline, we have to consider that the camera also exists in that timeline. So Alternate Camera is taking a picture of yet another timeline... with yet another camera. And so on. It's endless.

And what happens to those alternate Callies when they change the timeline? Does their timeline just continue on without changing? Old Callie never reaps the benefits. Or do those changes happen and old Callie gets overwritten by new Callie? Old Callie gets erased. Seems like there's nothing in it for Old Callie.

And New Callie would have no memory of changing the past. If she recreates the same photo she saw, the result appears identical to a fixed timeline. The only way to tell the difference is to look for a Bootstrap Paradox, something that has no origin. Fortunately, Finn's paintings serve as examples of these. He just copies what's in the photos, so who created the paintings in the photos?

reply

Seems we have new people, so they might find this useful.

reply

Uh... same reason. :)
