USS Enterprise

Does the 'USS Enterprise A' look different in any way to the Enterprise original earlier in the movie apart from the 'A' on the saucer?

reply

Yes. It's got some shades of the refit Enterprise from the original movies, but still looks much more like a cross between the Kelvin timeline Enterprise & the original (ironic given that this is a whole new ship, rather than a refit of a previous hull).

Bulkier

I was hoping for a more noticeable re-design. Couldn't really tell too much how different it was.

Who cares, it just gets destroyed in every film.

How many times is Hollywood going to *beep* on the Enterprise?

IKR?

It got beat up pretty good in the first two reboot movies, but not destroyed.

Frankly, this saucer crash was a lot more realistic than in Generations, where there is shockingly little damage.

Yeah, it's pretty different. But at the same time it carries over design elements from the Abrams Enterprise. Imagine the Abrams Enterprise but less curvy. A bit more boxy in some places (the neck is thick and boxy) The nacelles are much smaller, they almost look oddly small compared to the 1701. However, the overall proportions of the 1701-A look roughly the same as the TOS Enterprise. The nacelle pylons are MUCH further apart. The deflector is still blue, and so are the bussards. The bottom of the saucer has a huge registry marking of NCC-1701-A. Here is a horrible quality picture of it to get some idea of what it looks like...

Thankyou.
I hope it can survive the next movie without getting trashed.

Hopefully a new inside as well

That actually looks pretty cool! Kinda like the Enterprise from TMP, which in my opinion was the best Starship design. I like the blue warp nacelles.

reply

What makes it look good is the warp nacelles are properly spaced.
On the 1st Enterprise they were WAY to close together.

Also, think this is the first Star Trek where we see a proper warp bubble: http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll187/thomas_evans4/Warp%20Bubble_zpsgfvvaroz.png

I think by the time we get Star Trek IV or Star Trek V we'll get that classic refit look back. Remember the underlying rule in this alternative universe is it is trying to right the wrongs Nero Created. We still might get this refit quickly. We'll see though.

reply

Yes the nacelles are MUCH further apart, in line with the previous Enterprises. This movie even emphasizes how CLOSE they were when they BLAST out of Yorktown at far faster than "thrusters only" as dictated by Starfleet regs. the reverse angle shot so clearly shows how WAY WAY too close together they have been; out of proportion, bow-legged, awkward. I thought they would fix it after trashing the ship in the last movie, but no.
Finally, the proportions (if not the details) are MUCH more in line with the REAL Enterprise that we have always loved.

reply

That is a fish-eye lens shot that exaggerates just how close they are together...
